MCDONOUGH RECRUITER'S GUIDE:
RECRUITING POLICIES

EXTENDING OFFERS

Job offers for both full-time and internship positions should be made in writing and sent directly to the MBA student.  Offer letters should include approximate start dates, acceptance deadlines, salary information and other negotiated compensation. We also ask that the Career Management Office is notified when an offer is extended so that we can ensure students are adhering to the policies below.

FULL-TIME OFFER POLICY

The Office of Career Management requests that employers inform students of their status within two weeks of an interview. We require that full-time offers extended after a summer internship remain open through November 24, 2008, although it is permissible to offer incentives for Students to accept before that date.

Full-time offers extended to second-year students during the fall recruiting process must remain open for four weeks from the students' receipt of a written offer.  For full-time offers extended during the spring, we require a decision period of at least 10 business days from the receipt of a written offer.  Please include these acceptance deadlines in your offer letters.

SUMMER INTERNSHIP OFFER POLICY

We request that companies inform students of their status within one week of each interview.  The Office of Career Management requires that companies extending summer internship offers allow a decision period of at least 15 business days from the students' receipt of a written offer or until February 9, 2009, whichever comes later.  We have found that the best intern recruiting experience for both employers and students happens in the second half of the year.  Therefore, the McDonough School of Business recommends that internship interviewing begin January 12, 2009.

REFERRALS/RECOMMENDATIONS

We will work with you to help identify a pool of candidates who most closely match your job criteria.  However, we will not recommend one student over another.

NON-DISCRIMINATION

Georgetown University does not discriminate against any person on the basis of race, color, gender, sexual orientation, age, religion, national or ethnic origin, marital status, veteran status, or handicap in admissions to, access to, treatment in, or employment in its programs and activities.  Accordingly, the school makes its facilities available to recruiting organizations whose practices are consistent with this policy.

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES

Students are required to honor the following commitments:

  • Pursue only positions in which they have genuine interest
  • Respond to all invitations from companies offering them an interview
  • Participate in all interviews they accept
  • Be prompt and well prepared for all interviews
  • Present an accurate account of work experience and education on their resume
  • Answer all questions from the interviewers truthfully
  • Discontinue the job search immediately after accepting a job offer and notify all potential employers of their decision
