Dean's Blog

Students, Parents, and Members of the Georgetown McDonough Community,

Please join me in welcoming the Class of 2016 to Georgetown McDonough!

We were energized by the arrival of new students – and returning students – to the Hilltop in August. Our campus is once again full of life as students begin classes, polish resumes, and prepare to join us again for "Bagels with the UG Dean" each week.

Here in the Undergraduate Program Office, summer is a time for reflection and growth. In the interest of continuous improvement, we have been working to enhance existing programs and explore new initiatives. Because we firmly believe that to become future leaders, our students must have a global perspective, global programming represents a large part of our efforts. In July, while we were hosting a group of 40 students from Universit√† Bocconi in Milano here at Georgetown, we were traveling with our own McDonough students to the University of Oxford, Fudan University in Shanghai, and ESADE in Barcelona. I encourage you to read about the students' experiences in their own words in their blogs.

The First Year Seminar is now in its third year with expanded offerings in response to increased demand, and the Entrepreneurship Fellows Program has accepted its second cohort of 22 future entrepreneurs. Our Alumni Mentor Program hosted more than 100 junior interns in New York City in June, and we recently welcomed 20 new alumni coaches to the program.

Finally, we inaugurated a new Undergraduate Research Initiative this past summer and were able to financially support 10 undergraduates on campus to conduct research. Students investigated a range of topics, including renewable energy, the Homeland Investment Act, the World Trade Organization, and social entrepreneurship.

It takes a dedicated team to deliver an outstanding curricular and co-curricular experience for our undergraduates, so we thank the faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and students who continue to support all of our programs.

Thank you – and welcome back!
