Living in D.C.

Students attending Georgetown University have the opportunity to live and learn at the center of world politics and business. In addition to the access students have to Washington-based research and policy institutions, Washington, D.C., offers a multitude of opportunities for cultural and social enrichment.

Housing

All Georgetown University graduate students live in off-campus housing. Apartments and shared houses are available for rent in the many diverse and exciting neighborhoods of Washington and Northern Virginia. Most Georgetown students choose to live in neighborhoods close to campus; each one has its own particular character. Some of the most popular student neighborhoods include:

Georgetown University offers two housing search programs during which students may stay in campus dormitories while looking for an apartment. Participants also receive apartment information and can seek advice from the Georgetown Office of Off-Campus Housing.

Life in the District

Living in Washington presents opportunities for students to supplement their learning by immersing themselves in the energy of the capital city. From Georgetown’s abundant shopping and dining venues just footsteps away from campus to the historic monuments on the National Mall, Washington offers activities for a wide variety of interests. The city is home to the Smithsonian Institute, the world’s largest museum complex with 19 museums, nine research centers, and even the National Zoo.

With an eclectic mix of government offices, corporations, embassies, nonprofit organizations, and cultural organizations, the District offers an almost endless calendar of events that provide Georgetown students with unparalleled access to opportunities for attending lectures, networking, and volunteering. Nightlife opportunities abound across the entire District, from Dupont Circle to the lights of Chinatown to the historic U Street area and the newly developed H Street corridor. For sports fans, Washington is the home of the Capitals, Redskins, Nationals, Wizards, Mystics, DC United, and of course, the Hoyas.
