Georgetown McDonough Hosts Diversity Dialogue Conference
Georgetown Aspiring Minority Business Leaders and Entrepreneurs (GAMBLE) and the Georgetown McDonough School of Business Undergraduate Program Office invited students from throughout the Washington Metropolitan Area to participate in the school’s inaugural Diversity Dialogue Conference on January 24, 2014.
The conference sought to inspire the next generation of corporate leaders to change the landscape and conversation on diversity and inclusion. The event began with a keynote address by David A. Thomas, dean of Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business and a noted expert on diversity in the workplace.
Participants also heard from a panel of leaders who champion diversity within their companies on strategic gains around diversity and inclusion. Panelists included William Chichester, campus recruiting sourcing and diversity strategy lead at Capital One; Pamela Culpepper, senior vice president of global diversity and inclusion officer at PepsiCo; Cherrie McCoy, director of office diversity at PwC; and Jennie Robles, vice president and head of diversity campus recruiting at Barclays Capital. Rosemary Kilkenny, vice president for institutional diversity and equity at Georgetown University, moderated the discussion.
The event welcomed undergraduate students from area schools, including George Washington University, Howard University, University of Maryland, American University, and George Mason University.
Laz Alonso, star of Avatar, Fast and the Furious, and NBC’s Deception, delivered the keynote address for the event. Alonso graduated from Howard University School of Business with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a concentration in marketing. After college, he worked on Wall Street at an investment banking firm. He and two partners eventually started their own marketing business, promoting mainstream products to the trend-setting urban market.
Participants also attended a networking lunch with corporate recruiters and a diversity career fair with representatives from Diversity Inc.’s Top 50 Employers.
