Georgetown McDonough Senior Candace Milner Selected to Receive Landegger Community Service Award

Last month, Candace Milner (B ’16) received the 2016 Lena Landegger Community Service Award. The award recognizes Georgetown students for their distinguished contributions to community service. Milner was honored with other winners at an awards dinner in Riggs Library.

The Lena Landegger Community Service awards began as a generous gift to Georgetown University for the purpose of honoring and rewarding service-oriented individuals in the community. These are students who have voluntarily committed to serve those in need in the many communities of which Georgetown is a part. The Lena Landegger Community Service Awards provide a remarkable occasion for Georgetown to celebrate and honor its deep commitment to community service.

“In order to effectively live as people for others, we must first acknowledge the power and privilege we hold then use it for the greater good and encourage others to do the same,” says Milner.  “My background and the work I have engaged in throughout my undergraduate career has enable me to cultivate a faith rooted in justice. I hope that receiving this award will enable me to continue to live a life of service and fight for justice for decades to come.”

An aspiring social entrepreneur, Milner is a senior from Columbus, Ohio, majoring in management and double minoring in African American studies and sociology. Throughout her time at Georgetown, Milner has been involved in numerous student led movements for change, participated in the Kalmanovitz Initiative Organizing Fellowship, as an intern at ONE DC, and led a voting registration campaign as a Young People For Fellow.  She concluded her time on the Hilltop serving as the president of the Georgetown University Chapter of the NAACP and the logistics coordinator for the Black House. In the future, Milner is looking forward to pursuing a joint degree in law and public policy.
