Georgetown McDonough Students Place Second in Business Strategy Case Competition

Georgetown McDonough placed second among 20 teams competing in this year’s McDonough-Hilltop Business Strategy Challenge (MHBSC) case competition. Primarily student-organized and led by Managing Co-Directors Mackenzie O’Connor (B ’16) and Andrew Fogarty (B ’17), the competition included a visit to the Newseum, an opening reception, and talks focused on the non-profit business sector delivered by KPMG, the Plexus Consulting Group, and Empowered Women International.

This year’s case presented the challenges facing the Latin American Youth Center (LAYC), a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit organization that offers supportive programs to low-income area youth. LAYC currently aims to increase and diversify their revenue; in part by actively marketing the company’s Positive Youth Development staff training program.

Each year, this competition gathers outstanding business students from across the globe to work on real nonprofit business cases. Other participating schools included Carnegie Mellon University, China’s University of Hong Kong, Belgium’s University Libre, Netherlands’ Maastricht University, the University of Michigan, Washington University’s Olin School of Business, and the University of Texas.
