Matthew McKenna Joins Global Social Enterprise Initiative as Executive in Residence

Matthew M. McKenna (L ’75) has joined the Georgetown University McDonough School of Business Global Social Enterprise Initiative (GSEI) as an executive in residence for 2017. He brings to GSEI more than three decades of experience in the private, public, and nonprofit sectors.

McKenna will work with GSEI on a new program to promote rural economic development. This Rural Opportunity Initiative (ROI) will be housed at Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business and aims to expand into a network of institutions focused on fostering, studying, and promoting rural economic development through partnerships between the public and private sectors.

Until recently, McKenna was senior advisor to U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack. In this role, he developed public-private partnerships for rural investment to foster economic development and growth.

Previously, McKenna served as chief executive officer of Keep America Beautiful, which focuses on volunteer leadership to build and sustain vibrant communities. He also brings 16 years of experience in senior management positions, including senior vice president of finance at PepsiCo. McKenna also was a partner with Winthrop, Stimson, Putnam & Roberts, a law firm in New York.

He is a graduate of Georgetown Law and is an adjunct professor at Fordham University’s School of Law.
