Christine Porath, associate professor of management at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business, presented “Creating Sustainable Performance – Thriving in the Workplace” at the HR People and Strategy Global conference, one of the largest HR and Strategy professional organizations, on April 15.

Porath discussed what managers can do to enable employees to thrive and consider best practices. “Helping people grow and remain energized at work is valiant on its own merits,” Porath said. “But it can also boost company performance, in a sustainable way.”

Porath’s research on creating sustainable performance identifies two components of thriving: vitality and learning. Four essential measures to help employees thrive at work include providing decision-making discretion, sharing information, minimizing incivility and offering performance feedback.
