Students Participate in Peeptrade University Challenge

Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business has been selected to compete in the Peeptrade University Challenge, a three-month long event in which teams of graduate students from the top business schools compete to best manage a $10,000 portfolio. Georgetown McDonough’s team comprises eight students from the school’s Master of Science in Finance program (MSF) and is advised by Professors Thomas Cooke and James Angel.

“Our program was selected to compete against students from Chicago, Dartmouth, Indiana, INSEAD, LBS, MIT, Princeton, and UNC,” said Allan Eberhart, the director of the MSF program. “So, this is a great opportunity for our students to showcase their skills. It’s also a great honor for the program.”

During the University Challenge, individual investors can follow the trading activity of university investment clubs in real time on Peeptrade, an online platform where users “peep” into the portfolios of other investors. Users pay a subscription fee to view the activity of a particular team, and the returns from the portfolio are donated to a charity preselected by that group of students. Georgetown’s team has decided to donate all proceeds to Some Others May Eat (SOME), an organization that provides food, clothing, and healthcare to the poor and homeless in Washington, D.C.

The teams will post their trading activity from Oct. 3 to Dec. 2. On Dec. 3, each team will present and defend their investments in Chicago to a panel of experts, who will determine which group managed their portfolio most effectively.
