  • VCIC Student Winners

    MBA Team Wins Entrepreneur’s Choice Award

    Five Georgetown McDonough School of Business MBA students earned one of the three top prizes at the regional Venture Capital Investment Competition (VCIC) held in Pittsburgh on Feb. 18. 

    The MBA team of Clark Dumas, Brian Tichenor, Halem Manhbouli, Ray Hwang, and Zachary Klein won the Mid-Atlantic Regional Entrepreneur’s Choice Award at the 14th annual competition, which involves more than 1,000 MBA students from four continents.

    VCIC is one of the premiere MBA competitions for venture capital and entrepreneurship. It has been holding competitions since 1998.

  • Macy’s MBA Challenge Winners Advance to Finals in NYC

    The Macy’s MBA Challenge 2011 Marketing Competition winners have been announced, and the Georgetown MBA team comprising Samantha Chow, Renu Razdan, James Ou, Jasmin Guleria, and Irene Yu earned a first place designation, a $5,000 prize and a trip to New York City to compete in the national finals on Friday, March 4.

    MBA Students Raise $10,000 For Horton's Kids

    The 22nd annual Ultimate 4 Basketball Tournament, hosted by MBA students at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business, assembled 22 teams from colleges and universities across the country in an effort to raise money for a local children’s nonprofit organization.
     
    Held on February 19 and 20, the tournament resulted in bragging rights for one school and a $10,000 donation to Horton’s Kids, which was accepted by Executive Director Brenda Chamberlain.

  • Taryn Voget Explains Every Genius Institute’s Concept at Leaders Breakfast

    With books and DVDs in-hand, the CEO and co-founder of Everyday Genius Institute and Georgetown graduate Taryn Voget spoke of her new business venture during a February 16 Leaders MBA Breakfast.

    Voget’s “Think Like a Genius” series has been lauded as an instruction tool from experts at the top of their respective fields. At the breakfast, she explained the challenges of marketing and getting her line of books to the retail shelves.

    While surrounded by Danish pastry, coffee and McDonough School of Business MBAs, Cogent founder and CEO Dave Schaeffer gave sound entrepreneurial suggestions to those attending the February 10 Leaders Breakfast.

    “I became an entrepreneur more by accident than by design,” Schaeffer said. “My first go-around in business was in a turn-around than with a start-up.”

    Luc Wathieu, associate professor of marketing at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business, has been elected newsletter editor of the INFORMS Society for Marketing Science (ISMS).

    The Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) is the largest professional society in the world for those in the field of operations research, management science, and business analytics.

The program, which held its first two sessions in Abu Dhabi this past fall, culminated on Georgetown’s campus in Washington, D.C., January 18-21, 2011.
