    MBA Students Celebrate Cultures At International Festival

    The MBA Student Government Association (SGA) hosted its second-annual international festival Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011 at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business.

  • New Global Undergraduate Student Group Launched

    Undergraduate students launched a new group on campus in the fall. The McDonough Global Student Association (MGSA) – the first international business student group – held its inaugural event on November 28. Norean Sharpe, senior associate dean, and Ricardo Ernst, professor of operations and information management, delivered remarks to undergraduate students, faculty, and staff as well as representatives from the Office of International Programs and Career Education Center.

    MBAs Learn About Sports Management at Verizon Center

    The Georgetown MBA Operations and Management Association visited the Verizon Center on December 9 to participate in a discussion of sports management, operations, branding, and marketing, and received a behind-the-scenes operations tour of the Verizon Center. They were hosted by Georgetown University Sports Industry Management faculty member Greg Bibb and alumna LaRhonda Lombardi of the Washington Wizards/Mystics.

  • World's Largest Bank Partners with Executive Education

    Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business recently finalized an agreement with the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) to conduct a 10-month executive education program for 24 senior ICBC executives. The program will focus on finance and also will include courses in accounting, organizational behavior, strategy, and marketing. Professor Allan Eberhart will be the academic director for the ICBC program.

  • Freshmen Participate in First Year Seminar Case Competition

    First year McDonough School of Business undergraduates recently completed the First Year Seminar case competition, titled International Business, Public Policy, and Society. Students were tasked with investigating and proposing a solution to a challenge from a the non-profit organization One Global Economy, which provides technical and informational assistance and access through social network and media sites worldwide – particularly in emerging markets.

    Undergrads Present at Sustainability Conference

     Five Georgetown McDonough School of Business undergraduates recently presented at the Corporate & College Collaborative for Sustainability conference hosted by The College of William & Mary’s Mason School of Business in Williamsburg, Va. The conference is designed to connect today's leaders in business and sustainability with student and faculty leaders on college campuses. Georgetown was one of 12 schools represented at the conference.

  • Startup Weekend a Big Success for McDonough Entrepreneurs

    After spending 54 non-stop hours working on an app to help students manage their courses and schedules, a team of entrepreneurs including MBA student Kevin Bergen and junior Carlos Cheung from Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business took first place at Startup Weekend Washington DC EDU, held in the Hariri Building at Georgetown.  

  • MBA Students Use Video Conferencing in Job Search

    Nine Georgetown MBA students recently gathered in a room in the MBA Career Center to meet with representatives of the Asian Development Bank in Manila. The students patiently waited for the employees of the bank to arrive, which they did – virtually by video conference. The bankers were calling in 12 time zones away.

    Georgetown “Movember” Team Raises Nearly $27,000 for Men’s Health Initiatives

    Throughout November, a team of MBA students from Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business sported mustaches for “Movember,” a global movement to raise awareness and money to support men’s cancer initiatives. In the end, the approximately 60 participants – including McDonough Dean David Thomas – and their women fundraising partners collected $26,841 for the cause.

    The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission should outsource routine examinations of investment advisors, suggests James J. Angel, associate professor of finance at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business, in a new study on the regulation of these advisors.

  • MBA Students Trek Around the Globe Exploring Career Options

    MBA students at Georgetown's McDonough School of Business recently spent a week-long break between classes traveling domestically and internationally to network and learn about specific industries through Career Treks.
     
    Whether learning about energy or consulting in Washington, finance on Wall Street, marketing along the East Coast, or opportunities in Dubai, Hong Kong, or Madrid, students had the opportunity to interact with business leaders and network with Georgetown alumni within each community. Some even secured job interviews and job offers during the treks.

    Georgetown MBAs Place 4th in CNBC Investment Challenge

    A team of MBA students from Georgetown's McDonough School of Business placed fourth overall in the CNBC "Million Dollar Portfolio Challenge MBA Face-Off." Additionally, team member and MBA Evening Program student Angel Irazola earned individual honors for his portfolio.

  • Georgetown Movember Team Surpasses $20,000 Goal and Looks to Regain #1 Position

    With November winding to a close, the mustache-clad MBA Movember team at Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business is still dedicated to raising awareness and funding for men’s health. The group has more than doubled its original goal of $10,000 – collecting over $21,500 and placing it at the heels of the first-place team from London Business School (LBS) in the MBA Challenge.
