This first of two international residencies is a hands-on consulting experience where each team is assigned to a multinational corporation that has operations in an emerging market. You will view the organization in the context of the culture and economy of an Asian country and come to understand the firm's unique challenges in managing its international operations. Six months prior to your visit, you and your teammates will research an issue of strategic importance to the company. Business school faculty will assist and advise, and a senior executive of the company will periodically review your team's progress. Once the research phase is complete, your team will travel to the overseas location, gather additional data, and complete a report for presentation to the sponsoring company. Past projects include: evaluating the potential for a secondary mortgage market in various Southeast Asian countries for a major international bank, conducting a feasibility study for an extended-stay facility in Manila for a global hotel chain, evaluating potential sites for a Southeast Asian hub for the world's largest parcel delivery service, and proposing a market strategy for a multinational power tool manufacturer's product line in mainland China. |
