Residencies

Georgetown University’s Executive Master’s in Leadership (EML) program requires all students to complete three residencies to complement their on-campus learning.

 Opening Residency

The Opening Residency takes place at the beginning of the EML program in March and focuses on defining contemporary leadership. Students explore models of leadership, examine an in-depth overview of the program’s goals and approach, and begin to build relationships with faculty members and network with their fellow students.

Global Residency

The Global Residency takes place over the course of a week in July in Cape Town, South Africa. Student teams are engaged in consulting projects prior to traveling to South Africa, where they meet with clients to deliver their project recommendations. This experience allows them to examine current social, economic, and business issues in South Africa and receive briefings by South African experts on emerging global trends.

By immersing students in a challenging leadership environment, the Global Residency teaches students in context.

Students also interact with staff members from the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation, an organization that promotes learning from the experience of South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

Closing Residency

The Closing Residency is the capstone experience of Georgetown’s EML program and takes place at the Aspen Wye Institute on Maryland’s Eastern Shore near Washington, D.C.

At this conference-style event, Georgetown EML students present an executive summary of their Master’s Project to an assembly of faculty members, alumni, and visiting business and institution leaders.
