Africa and Middle East Graduate Alliance The mission of the Africa and Middle East Graduate Alliance is to promote the region to the McDonough community. Our aim is to develop a greater understanding of Africa and the Middle East through both business and cultural events. The Alliance provides a network for students who are interested in career opportunities in the Middle East.
Annual Report The Annual Report is a Georgetown MBA tradition! The show, which aims to showcase wry humor and talent, is our way to release tension near the year's end, turning our wits toward creating a humorous view of the whole MBA experience. After a year of crunching numbers and burning the midnight oil on cases, Georgetown MBAs enjoy the different creative effort of bringing this show to the stage of the ornate, historically-rich Gaston Hall to the laughter of MBA classmates, alumni, and faculty.
Asia Business Consortium The Asia Business Consortium was developed to provide a link between the Georgetown MBA Program and the Asian business world. The club 1) assists students with job and internship opportunities, 2) promotes the Georgetown MBA/McDonough School of Business brand in Asia, 3) further develops the Georgetown MBA-Asia alumni network, and 4) brings Asian culture to the MBA community through the sponsoring of different events.
Black MBA Association Members of the Black MBA Association (BMBAA) are committed to making a difference in our local, regional and global communities through the investment of our individual and collective professional resources in activities that promote ethical business strategy and compassionate social interaction. Our purpose is threefold: to encourage excellence in academic preparation and professional development of students of African descent who are candidates for the Masters of Business Administration degree, to cultivate our presence as members of the Georgetown community and enrich the academic and professional environment at the McDonough School of Business, and to engage in structurally organized activities in the areas of recruitment, retention, and placement of students of African descent in our program.
CalTrek CalTrek's mission is to facilitate west coast recruitment across many industries and functional areas. We organize an annual trip to the San Francisco Bay area each January to visit companies of interest to current students. The trip (Trek) includes company visits and networking receptions with local McDonough School, Foreign Service, Public Policy and Georgetown undergraduate alumni. In past years, interviews, internships and full-time job offers have been obtained as a result of the visits.
Due to its cross-functional nature, CalTrek combines the resources and interests of many on-campus clubs. We work with the GBTA, Marketing, Finance, Consulting, and Entrepreneurs clubs, as well as alumni associations. If you are interested in technology companies, start-ups, or simply the West Coast lifestyle, you should not miss this great opportunity!
Emerging Markets Network The Emerging Markets Network promotes student interests in business in emerging and developing economies. The Network combines regional interests with business concentrations such as finance or consulting to help MBAs explore the challenges and rewards of professional careers in these countries. Members host a number of educational activities, career events, as well as formal and informal networking opportunities. The Emerging Markets Network also promotes MBA's career development by establishing linkages with resources at Georgetown University and in the Washington DC community.
European Business Association The mission of the European Business Association (EBA) is to provide an active link between the Georgetown MBA and the European business world. The EBA was founded in the fall semester of 1999 to address student, professional and cultural issues from a European perspective.
The members of the EBA have set four goals: a) to provide MBA students with career resources, b) to further promote the "Georgetown MBA" brand name in Europe, c) to develop the "Georgetown MBA European Alumni Network", and d) to bring a "European" cultural aspect to our MBA community. At all times, members of the EBA are committed to act in an ethical and professional manner.
Gay and Lesbian Alliance (GALA) The McDonough School Gay and Lesbian Alliance (GALA) serves members of the MBA program who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT), as well as those who support this community. The mission of GALA is to foster a supportive environment for professional development, provide a forum for the discussion of business issues related to sexual orientation, and to facilitate social interaction and networking among students, alumni, and professionals.
Georgetown Entertainment and Media Association The Georgetown MBA Entertainment and Media Club welcomes those who have a passion for these industries. Our goals are twofold: 1) make the club an effective organization to learn about the various aspects of the media and entertainment industries and 2) offer an approach to seek job opportunities in those industries. We like to have fun and provide each other support not likely to be found anywhere else in the MBA program.
Georgetown Entrepreneurship Network The Georgetown Entrepreneurship Network provides resources, opportunities, and education for students wishing to start a new business immediately after graduation as well as to students interested in working in small businesses, venture capital, cutting edge technology companies, or larger corporations that promote the entrepreneurial spirit.
The GEN sponsors speakers, workshops, networking opportunities, and educational events to connect the Georgetown entrepreneurial community, both within and beyond the campus. The GEN also provides sources and contacts for starting new businesses, growing existing small businesses, and networking within new age technology companies.
Georgetown Globe The Georgetown Globe is a student-published monthly MBA newsletter with a print and online edition. The mission of the Globe is to report the news of the McDonough School of Business and to provide a forum for debate of issues that affect it.
Georgetown MBA Partners Association Georgetown Partners is a group of students and their spouses/significant others whose purpose is to make the transition into MBA life a little easier. The MBA Program adds a new dimension to a relationship. While students adjust to the rigors of graduate school, spouses and significant others are often challenged by living in a new city, finding a different job, and making new friends. Some students are dating, some are engaged, some have families, and many others are unfamiliar with the United States. Individual situations vary, but everyone that joins Georgetown MBA Partners will have a support network of people who have had similar experiences.
During the school year, Georgetown MBA Partners organizes social and educational functions on campus and around the Washington, D.C. area. Georgetown Ultimate Four The Georgetown Ultimate Four is a two-day basketball tournament involving students from top MBA programs. The event is hosted by The McDonough School of Business MBA program at Georgetown University, and benefits Washington, DC "I Have a Dream" Foundation (IHAD) project. The "I Have a Dream" Foundation is a national, non-profit organization dedicated to supporting underprivileged children in the completion of their education.
The weekend event invites teams to participate from MBA programs all across the country. The event is a great way to meet students from other leading business schools and to help a worthy organization.
Georgetown Wine Society The Georgetown Wine Society aim to provide an educational forum for students, faculty and staff interested in wine and to provide intra-McDonough School networking opportunities. The Georgetown Wine Society augments the MBA curriculum by offering an interactive wine education series that provides personal, social, and business benefits. Our objectives include:
- To build on members' social business protocol and professionalism
- To teach the basics of wine etiquette, varietals, and regions
- To create a relaxed and unpretentious environment where anyone with an interest in wine can enjoy and learn in a comfortable atmosphere
- To encourage responsible and moderate consumption of wine
Georgetown Women in Business Georgetown Women in Business is a chapter of The National Association of Women MBAs (NAWMBA), which is a national organization dedicated to educating and promoting the role of women in the workplace.
The Georgetown Chapter of NAWMBA seeks to accomplish this goal through providing networking, recruiting and career-building events and opportunities throughout the MBA program.
NAWMBA was founded in 1979 at the Wharton School of Business as anot-for-profit organization. The founders believed that an organization wasneeded to deal with issues women face in business and which would be dedicated to the education and promotion of women in business. The restructuring of the corporate world as management dynamics rapidly with the arrival of women into the workforce was also of concern to the organization.
Global Operations Association The Supply Chain Management function is becoming more important in the increasingly global market. This is not only because it is the heart of a company but also because it considerably increases profitability through the application of effective operational techniques. This newly formed club intends to provide opportunities for people interested in Operations and Supply Chain Management to get together, exchange ideas and organize activities related to this field.
Graduate Investment Fund The Graduate Investment Fund (GIF) is a student managed fund, comprised of endowments and alumni contributions. The fund is currently valued at over $200k. Ultimately, Finance is a practitioner's vocation. The Club aims to bring the various theories expounded in Economics and techniques presented in Finance to life by allowing members to make real life investment decisions.
Graduate Marketing Association The Graduate Marketing Association (GMA) is an organization that is dedicated to education and career development for students interested in making marketing their career. Our mission is to enrich the marketing education of our members, assist members with career planning and development, and foster the reputation of marketing at Georgetown MBA to prospective employers.
The GMA achieves these goals by capitalizing on our extensive resources including the Career Management Center, relationships with corporations, faculty, alumni, and club members. We also foster professional learning through meetings, external consulting projects, speakers, and marketing events through the academic year.
Graduate Student Consulting Group The Graduate Student Consulting Group (GSCG) provides members with career assistance, skills development opportunities, and forums to learn about the consulting industry. The GSCG has maintained a consistent membership of about 170 members as students continue to evaluate consulting as a professional career.
Consulting projects with organizations such as the DC Medical Center, BBBOnline and the United Way exposed members to real world consulting engagements where participants gained valuable experience and demonstrated to these firms the talent of Georgetown MBA students. Mentorship programs, mock case interviews, firm visits, speakers and case competitions further prepared members to tackle tough interviews with top firms.
Consulting is an exciting industry that provides professionals with intellectually challenging and professionally rewarding opportunities. In the coming year, we look forward to assisting members in exploring the industry, preparing for the job hunt, having some fun, and ultimately enriching their lives after leaving Georgetown.
Hispanic and Latin American Student Association The Hispanic and Latin American Student Association (HALASA) formed in 2007 from the merger of the Student Association of Hispanic MBAs (SAHMBA) and the Latin American Business Association (LABA). HALASA is committed to the advancement of Hispanics and Latin Americans in business and serves to provide a link between Georgetown MBA students and business opportunities in Latin America. The organization assists in the recruitment of Hispanic and Latin American students and faculty at MSB and provides academic and career development support for its members. HALASA focuses on building awareness of the Latin American business environment and its cultural richness.
Japan Society The objectives of the Japan Society are to serve the McDonough community's academic and professional needs, to improve recognition and the reputation of the McDonough at Georgetown in the Japanese business society, and to support the club members' academic and professional activities at the McDonough as well as after graduation. Activities of the club include bridging the MBA and Japanese business community in DC, introducing Japanese business issues and culture to the McDonough community, promoting McDonough School presence and status among Japanese business school applicants, building a strong relationship and interactive network with Japan-related McDonough School alumni throughout the world and, researching jobs, managing job information, and assisting students in job searches.
MBA Finance Club The MBA Finance Club serves as a focal point for students interested in careers in finance by providing education on careers in finance and providing resources to support the career search. The Finance Club's goal is to augment the MBA curriculum by creating a forum where students with like interests can share professional information and advice on career opportunities through professional speaker programs, information sessions, mentor programs, resume reviews and specific finance related events.
Membership in the Finance Club provides an excellent opportunity to explore a finance career or to remain active in the industry while in school. The club sponsors industry professionals on campus, organizes a career day in New York City, manages an investment fund, sponsors an investment challenge, and develops professional skills through fee-based projects and on-campus workshops. The Finance Club strives to enhance students' awareness of industry trends and promotes career development activities for its members.
MBA Volunteers The purpose of this organization is to provide a link between the Georgetown University MBA Program and the Washington, D.C. community. By providing a central location for community information and coordination of events such as MBA Volunteer Days, the MBA Volunteers Club strives to provide a variety of opportunities for students to become involved with the local community. Opportunities have included:
- MBA Clothing Drive: A collection of professional clothing to benefit the local DC men and women's shelters and halfway homes.
- MBA Volunteer Days: A day of community related activities throughout DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia.
- MBA Holiday Toy Drive: A toy drive for DC underprivileged children.
McDonough School Healthcare Business Alliance The Healthcare Business Alliance analyzes current trends and fosters relationships within the health care industry from a variety of perspectives. This club maintains a specific focus on health care and how it uniquely relates to other areas of business. Club members seek to learn more about how health care relates to the fields of finance, information technology, consulting, government policy formulation, marketing and management/administration through research and education, as well as from outside specialists. The club also focuses on the increasing number of health care companies that recruit at Georgetown.
Net Impact -- Students for Responsible Business Net Impact is a network of emerging business leaders committed to using the power of business to create a better world. It is also the most progressive and influential network of MBAs in existence today. Originally founded as Students for Responsible Business in 1993, Net Impact has quickly grown to over 50 local chapters and 5,000 members.
Georgetown University's Net Impact chapter was formed in 1993, as a charter chapter. Georgetown was home to the first national MBA conference on issues of business and responsibility in 1993, and hosted the 10th annual Net Impact Conference in October, 2002. The combination of Georgetown's position as the oldest Jesuit institution in the United States and its high caliber of globally-minded students and faculty enable Georgetown Net Impact to serve as one of the most active student organizations on campus.
Non-Profit Internship Fund The mission of the Non-Profit Internship Fund is to provide financial support to first-year Georgetown MBA students interested in summer internship opportunities within non-profit organizations worldwide. The Non-Profit Internship Fund hosts an outrageously fun, live and silent auction in the third module each year. Items are donated by students, faculty, administration and businesses. Proceeds from the auction support summer internships for MBA students committed to working with non-profit organizations worldwide. The impact of these internships can be immeasurable as students dedicate their energy and business skills to organizations seeking sustainability and growth.
Real Estate Organization The Real Estate Organization's objective is to enhance student access to the wealth of resources located at Georgetown and within the greater Washington D.C. community in order to help students educate themselves about real estate and prepare for successful careers in this dynamic industry.
It is our goal to augment the MBA curriculum by creating a forum where students with like interests can share professional information and advice on career opportunities. Through mentor programs, resume reviews, property tours, professional speaker programs, social events, information sessions and specific real estate related events, The Real Estate Club creates an indispensable opportunity for Georgetown MBA students.
South Asian Business Alliance (SABA) The mission of SABA is to encourage excellence in academic preparation and professional development of students of South Asian descent at McDonough. We want to cultivate our presence as members of the Georgetown community and enrich the academic and professional environment at the McDonough School of Business. We plan to engage in structurally organized activities in the areas of recruitment, retention, and placement of students of South Asian decent in the MBA program.
Student Government Association The MBA Student Government Association (SGA) exists for one reason -- to serve the MBA student body at Georgetown University. In this capacity, the SGA is the primary interface between the student body and the faculty and administration. The SGA is more than just a student advocate, however. The Student Government Association also works to plan social events and boost alumni relations. In short, the Student Association exists to make your time at the McDonough School of Business as enjoyable and rewarding as possible.
The SGA is ultimately responsible for major student organization decisions, management of finances, and implementation of new and existing policies or initiatives. One of the most popular and well-known functions of the SGA is social event planning. The Vice President for Events and Social Activities plan all major social events both on- and off-campus. These events include the Thursday kegs, outings to local sporting events and the Winter and Spring socials. In addition to the executive officers, first-year cohort representatives are elected in the fall and are responsible for the leadership of their respective cohorts and represent the cohorts in various administrative settings. |
