Getting Ready for Reunion

Making Connections that Matter: Volunteers Step Forward to Plan Reunion Weekend 2011, June 2-5
What inspires alumni to take on volunteer work on behalf of their alma mater? That’s a question for the more than two dozen members of the McDonough School of Business Alumni Network who have agreed to contribute their time, talent, and most importantly, their enthusiasm to plan events and activities for next summer’s Reunion Weekend 2011.
Planning is underway to honor graduate alumni from the Classes of 2006, 2001, 1996, 1991 and 1986, representing the MBA, EML, and IEMBA programs. The annual weekend celebration will take place June 2-5, 2011, and will welcome undergraduate and graduate alumni to the McDonough School of Business Alumni Network events and Georgetown University’s Alumni Association celebration.
“If there is one word to describe our inspiration and planning philosophy it’s ‘connections.’ A good way to help that process is to get as many alumni involved in the earliest discussions,” said Deborah Hudson, special assistant to the dean for external affairs. “Alumni can participate to the extent of their interests and their schedules.”
The Reunion 2011 Planning Team held its first meetings via conference call, splitting into two groups to accommodate the large number of volunteers.  “Nearly every alumnus emphasized that reunion was a chance to see their classmates, renew networking contacts, and see their former professors,” said Jeff Franke, chief of staff at the McDonough School of Business.
Alumni planning Reunion 2011 are considering dedicated individual class parties, programming to support career networking and professional development, and family-oriented activities for alumni who will bring their children back to the Hilltop with them.
Committing to attend an event that is several months away is remarkable given that members of the school’s Reunion 2011 planning team hail from not only the D.C. region, but from California, Connecticut, Texas, Georgia, New York, Minnesota, Geneva, Switzerland, and Paris, France as well.
This past summer’s Reunion Weekend McDonough School of Business Open House, which took place on June 4, drew more than 600 undergraduate and graduate alumni and their family members for the Friday night celebration. Around 200 alumni and guests attended the Saturday, June 5, all-class dinner held in the Fisher Colloquium. Photos from the 2010 reunion have been posted on the school’s Alumni web page at: www.msb.georgetown.edu/alumni.
