MBA Students Sponsor Desks for School Children in Africa

August 14, 2012
As co-founder of the nonprofit Achieve in Africa, Brendan Callahan works to improve education in rural areas of Africa most in need. As a member of the MBA Evening Program Global Experience group that recently traveled to Johannesburg, South Africa, Callahan and his fellow MBA ’13 classmates and professors have raised funds to sponsor the construction of 91 new desks for school children in Tanzania who currently sit on large rocks that they carry to the classroom each day.

The South Africa Global Experience students are hoping to raise enough funds to provide 200 desks to these children, and have invited their classmates who participated in the Global Experience residencies to Buenos Aires and Beijing, as well as anyone else who is interested in helping out, to donate to the cause. Each desk costs $42 and 95 percent of money raised through this volunteer group goes to charity. Learn more at
