Study Abroad Scholarship Named for Ilkka Ronkainen

June 11, 2010 Ilkka Ronkainen

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Hong Kong study abroad program “Comparative Business: The Asia-Pacific Perspective,” an anonymous donor has established a scholarship for students participating in the Georgetown University McDonough School of Business program.

The Ilkka Ronkainen Hong Kong Scholarship honors the professor who established the program two decades ago. The donor wanted to honor Ronkainen, a professor of marketing and international business and the Hong Kong program’s first director, for his efforts in making the program a success.

The first recipient of the scholarship is Jessica Holton, a sophomore business major. She will join 24 other students this summer to study at the Chinese University of Hong Kong for five weeks.

During the Comparative Business program, students enroll in two courses: International Marketing and Comparative Strategic Management, which are taught by faculty at the Chinese University. They also participate in experiential learning through guest speakers, seminars, visits to Chinese businesses, and excursions to cultural sites. For more information about the program, contact the current academic director, Professor of the Practice Lynn Doran, at doranl@georgetown.edu.
