Alumni Celebrate a Virtual Reunion with Georgetown McDonough

Earlier this summer, the Office of Alumni Relations at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business made the difficult decision to postpone the in-person 2020 Graduate Alumni Reunion. Working in conjunction with the program deans, the Office of Alumni Relations wanted to ensure that alumni would still have the opportunity to connect with their classmates — now more than ever.

Together, they announced the Virtual Reunion Kick-Off to celebrate the graduate business classes of 1980, 1985, 1990, 1995, 2000, 2005, 2010, and 2015. Over 300 alumni registered for the Friday afternoon event.

The virtual event featured a State of the School update, a “Big Data, Small Data, and COVID-19” panel, and class-specific happy hours.

Paul Almeida, dean, William R. Berkley Chair, and professor of strategy, delivered the State of the School address. The program also featured updates from Prashant Malvayia, senior associate dean of MBA programs; Bardia Komrad, senior associate dean for executive degree programs; and Allan Eberhart, senior associate dean for the Master of Science in Finance (MSF) program. .

The panel, hosted by Jose Luis Guerrero, associate professor of operations and information management, focused Guererro’s comprehensive research in relation to the coronavirus pandemic . He was joined by two Georgetown McDonough alumnae in the analytics field: Joclyn Bryne Houle (MBA’98) from Capital One and Aishah Iqbal (MBA’06) from Essence Global, who highlighted their own expertise in the analytics field and how COVID-19 has affected their professional and personal lives.

The event rounded out with class-specific alumni happy hours. The Office of Alumni Relations also announced the class with the highest attendance at the event — congratulating the Full-time MBA class of 2000.
