Meet the Class of 2020: Anoop Mettu (MiM’20)

Anoop Mettu (MiM’20)
Hometown: Hyderabad, India

Why did you choose Georgetown?

I almost accepted an offer from another university before I heard from Georgetown. However, Georgetown admissions called me on the phone to congratulate me and extend an admissions offer — within two days they had shipped me a hand-written letter, along with a few other essentials from Washington, D.C., to Hyderabad, India. This was among the many examples of the “human” touch students can experience at Georgetown, and I chose this university because of its community and values.

I also remember watching a video from Paul Almeida, dean and William R. Berkley Chair at Georgetown McDonough, where he spoke about his vision for the business school and how we should contribute to the world. I valued his vision to transform students into leaders with strong ethical and moral foundations. I am genuinely thankful for my cohort and the friendships I was able to build.

What is your favorite memory or proudest moment from your time at Georgetown?

I have made so many memories at Georgetown; from our inaugural Yates Field House Boat Race to participating in escape rooms with our project teams and staying up late to help friends ace our exam.

One of my proudest memories is when my friend called me around 1:30 a.m. asking if I could help them with an accounting question. We had a final coming up and I had prepared well, so when my friend asked the question, I was able to answer it without looking at my notes.

What is one of the most important lessons you have learned while at Georgetown?

There are many lessons I will carry forward with me from my time at Georgetown. The program lived up to its accelerated pace, as I was simultaneously trying to figure out the logistics of finding a place to stay, while acclimating to a completely new country. However, I was always supported by both friends and administration every step of the way. It is important to find the right balance.

Is there a particular person that helped shape your Georgetown experience into what it is today?

It is hard to choose just one person from the incredible group of friends I made here at Georgetown. I would say both Pasha (Mostaghim) and Line (Alaeddine) have given me an incredible amount of support throughout my journey.

What was your favorite class?

There are genuinely a lot of great courses and professors. For the sake of picking one, I would say Operations and Global Supply Chains with Ricardo Ernst, Baratta Chair in Global Business; his class was incredibly fun.

What are you most looking forward to as an alumus?

I hope do well in life, fulfill my aspirations, and I cannot wait to come back to see my friends and cherish all the memories. I am looking forward to our reunion someday, and I wish with all of my heart to see my cohort in incredible places in their careers. HOYA SAXA!
