Thank You to Our Alumni

The start of the new decade was unlike anyone could have predicted. Yet, what that remained consistent throughout was the support from the Georgetown McDonough alumni community.

We wanted to thank you and highlight what you made possible, even during a global pandemic.

To start, many of you offered advice to graduating students as they entered an uncertain job market back in May. One that resonated with so many was from a 2018 MBA graduate: “Failure is necessary.” These three words reflect on how we grow from our shortcomings, learn from our mistakes, and illustrate that it is okay for endeavors not to work out as planned. It was a relief to many of our students to hear this. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with our latest graduates.

You also made this summer’s Hoyas Helping Hoyas campaign a success. You helped over 50 students obtain jobs and internships to replace those canceled by COVID-19. Alumni engagement also has increased during this time of virtual learning and working. Over 100 speakers engaged with our PILLARs program, which placed you directly in our virtual classrooms to share your expertise and advice with our students. We look forward to working with you to continue to expand on this program — whether virtual or in-person — in the future.

Finally, many of you have donated your time to host and participate in virtual webinar panels. As a result, we have been able to provide a rich variety of subjects and worldly perspectives to our alumni and student communities. It was astounding to have a singular webinar featuring alumni broadcasting from Canada, the Netherlands, Brazil, and Indonesia simultaneously. We are always thrilled to showcase our alumni expertise and have more planned for the coming months. We also extend our gratitude for those who attended the 2020 Virtual Graduate Reunion Kick-Off. We were thrilled to see so many of you there, and we look forward to seeing you all next October in person.

While our Thanksgiving tables may look a little different this year, we are perpetually grateful to have a community that values connection and seeks opportunities to support one another.
