The Master of Science in Finance Program
For more than 200 years, Georgetown University has built a reputation as one of the world’s leading higher education institutions. The McDonough School of Business and the Master of Science in Finance Program (MSF) build on the values and commitment to excellence that you would expect from Georgetown through our innovative and rigorous curriculum, commitment to ethical leadership, and focus on equipping our graduates to succeed in today’s most challenging business environments.
Georgetown’s Master of Science in Finance is a 21-month program that includes six core and four elective courses, as well as an onsite residency in Washington, D.C., and a Global Consulting Project in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Our program is unique in the marketplace. We believe it sets the bar for how graduate education will be structured in the coming years. The program incorporates cutting-edge technology into its curriculum, including Anytime Media and a unique Blended Classroom to increase its educational quality. We attract the brightest and most motivated students from all over the world who need the flexibility to work and study outside the Washington, D.C. area. By using technology, students join us from around the world and interact with each other and faculty as if they were sitting side-by-side.
Our program mimics trends in global training and development that many companies and industry leaders are using today. By recruiting at Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business, you will gain new hires equipped with both a Georgetown degree and expertise with the newest and most efficient learning methodology available.
My experience in the program has proven why Georgetown has a reputation as one of the leading business schools in the world: the world-class faculty have carefully designed a program that delves deep into the quantitative application of financial theory, and students are surrounded by like-minded, highly competitive peers who want to attain positions on Wall Street or in the C-suite. Because of this, the program is an easy sell to potential employers. Not only is the Georgetown brand well-known, but a short conversation easily reveals the added value beyond an MBA: a specific and deep mastery of finance and financial leadership.”
D. Allen Ammerman, MSF Class of 2017
The MSF vs. MBA
Georgetown’s Master of Science in Finance program is unique in the marketplace. Our program is designed for working professionals and is taught by Georgetown’s highly regarded finance faculty. Our focus on finance allows students to dive more deeply into financial concepts than they would in a general business degree. While many MBA programs also have courses in finance, it’s our primary focus. Our graduates gain specialized knowledge and practical experience in advanced financial concepts that exceed those of other graduate business programs. Our students also develop a strong consulting orientation through our program’s case competition experience and showcase global leadership skills through our Global Consulting Project which serves as a capstone to the academic curriculum.
Our program’s focus on advanced financial concepts, ethical leadership, communication, problem-solving, and collaboration prepares graduates for traditional finance positions (corporate finance, investing, wealth management, private equity, real estate, insurance, etc.) as well as positions with leading consulting firms and other finance-related positions in business.
