The Georgetown Business, Society, and Public Policy Initiative is a rigorous and leading academic catalyst, both locally and globally, at the intersection of business, society, and public policy in the 21st century.

The initiative provides students, as well as business and political leaders and the general public, a greater understanding of the challenges facing corporations. More broadly, it will provide a nonpartisan, global venue to address critical business issues of the day.

For students, the initiative ensures that every graduate of Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business possesses a fundamental understanding of the impact public decision-making can have on the dynamism of business and, in turn, the extraordinary influence business can have on society.

Courses are provided to prepare all students for the challenges they will face as future business leaders, utilizing Georgetown McDonough’s resources, as well as those throughout the university and beyond the gates of Georgetown.  Students will learn to think analytically, strategically, and responsibly within market, institutional, and societal settings.

For faculty, the initiative provides an enhanced platform to support teaching, research, and interaction with students, as well as with relevant leaders on the convergence of global business, government, and society.

Georgetown McDonough’s world-renowned faculty are uniquely positioned in Washington, D.C., to speak to the issues facing both current and future business leaders in their navigation of the significant demands of government and society. Given their focus and commitment, faculty are ideally suited, along with their Georgetown colleagues, to probe and address the dynamic, changing business environment. The initiative also is a supporting and integrating force in joining together other centers and initiatives within the McDonough School of Business.

Finally, Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business takes seriously its responsibility to be a center for innovative thought and analysis at the intersection of business, society, and public policy. Together with other schools at Georgetown University and with other relevant institutions around the world, the initiative establishes a forum for business to address some of the most challenging problems facing the world’s public and private sectors. Both the McDonough School of Business and Georgetown University remain committed to contributing to the national and global debates that continue to challenge our world and our collective futures.

 Jose Barroso

“What impresses me most about this extraordinary initiative is its spirit. In a world racked by future challenges every minute of every day, it provides a critically needed forum and voice for collaboration among business, government, and society. Without that close collaboration we are severely limited in our global options. I am honored and delighted to be associated with this effort at Georgetown McDonough.”
