Initiative for Governance, Risk, and Society

Businesses face an increasingly complex landscape of interconnected risks and evolving stakeholder expectations. The Initiative for Governance, Risk, and Society is dedicated to understanding how corporate governance shapes the risks businesses take, how they manage and respond to those risks, and the consequences for business and society. By bringing together rigorous research, thought leadership, and engagement with business leaders and policymakers, the initiative seeks to turn evidence into better governance, stronger resilience, and more effective business decisions.

 Aligning Governance and Risk Management

Corporate governance and risk management are fundamentally connected. Through boards and committees, executive incentives, disclosure, and regulation, governance shapes the risks firms take and how those risks are identified and managed. Effective governance therefore goes beyond protecting against adverse outcomes—it enables better risk-taking, stronger strategic decisions, and greater resilience. By studying these connections, we provide research and insights that help business leaders, boards, policymakers, and future leaders make better decisions about risk.
