Alumni Spotlight – Justin Falvey

Justin Falvey (B ‘90) made a name for himself in Hollywood following his undergraduate career at Georgetown McDonough. With more than 20 years of experience in production, he now runs Amblin Television as co-president, producing television shows such as the Emmy nominated The Americans, The United States of Tara, Smash, and American Gothic.

In adjusting to the competitive and creative industry of entertainment, Falvey forged a partnership with his former rival to achieve success. “I think we literally said, we’re going to get a lot further working together than we are trying to compete with each other,” recalls Falvey in an interview with Variety, talking about his partnership with producer Darryl Frank. They decided to pool their contacts and sources of funding, allowing one’s opportunities to become the other’s.

Prior to personally being acquainted with Amblin Pictures’ founder Steven Spielberg and forming the Amblin Television division, Falvey worked at Dreamworks, where he cut his teeth learning the vocation. With several years of experience under his belt, Falvey and Frank were able to take Spielberg’s desire to “tackle TV on his own terms” in 2013 and found the new unit, with more creative control than either of them had ever had before.

Moving forward, Falvey also will serve as executive producer on All the Way, an upcoming HBO movie starring Bryan Cranston and written by Robert Schenkkan, which is adapted from Schenkkan’s Tony Award-winning play of the same name.
