Hi! My name is Scott Kelly, and I am a McDonough peer ambassador.

Hometown: Newton, MA

Class: 2019

Major: Finance & Management

Extracurricular Activities: Innovo Consulting, Hoya Homelessness, Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship, Carroll Fellows Initiative, and lots of pickup basketball at Yates

Interesting Fact About Me: The current top item on my bucket list is to see the Northern Lights.

What made you choose Georgetown's McDonough School of Business? McDonough combined academic rigor with a genuine passion for helping others that I hadn’t seen at any other school.

What are the best things about being a Hoya? The people around you. Georgetown students care about each other, about having a great four years here, and about the world. I find myself constantly motivated and inspired by Georgetown students and faculty.

Why do you love D.C.?  Variety. D.C. has something for everyone. As tough as it can be, especially when finals are looming, try to get off campus and explore the city. Make sure to visit the monuments late at night. The Lincoln Memorial is my personal favorite.

Share a defining and/or transformative classroom/educational moment? In my Foundations of Entrepreneurship class, Professor Jeff Reid brought in over a dozen entrepreneurs to speak about their journeys. One speaker traced his path from being a student in college to running an extremely successful tech company. It made entrepreneurship feel real and possible in a way that I hadn’t felt before.

What is your advice to incoming Hoyas?  Come to Georgetown with an open mind. Whether high school was the greatest four years of your life or the worst, college is a clean slate and a chance to develop into the person you really want to be.
