Alberto Musalem

Alberto is an economist and executive with private and public sector experience in finance, markets, economic policy, and corporate governance in for-profit and non-profit organizations.

Alberto served as CEO and Co-CIO of Evince Asset Management LP (2018-22), on which he began work in 2017 and co-founded in 2018. He executed on the company’s business and investment strategies, product development, stakeholder engagement, culture, resource alignment, planning, and evaluation. The company, with operations in the US and UK, developed portfolio technologies to manage a quantitative global fund on behalf of investors across classes.

Alberto served as Executive Vice President of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and Senior Advisor to the President (2014-17). He led the Integrated Policy Analysis, and the Emerging Markets and International Affairs Groups. He served on the Bank’s Management Committee and represented the New York Fed on the Committee on the Global Financial System (CGFS) of the Bank of International Settlements.

Alberto was Managing Director, Partner, and Global Head of Research of Tudor Investment Corporation (2000-13). He also served on the firm’s Management, Capital Allocation, and Strategy Committees (2009-13). He worked with diverse groups of portfolio managers, globally across asset classes, on investment strategies grounded on the interaction of economic policy, macroeconomic performance and markets (2000-13). He co-managed a global macro investment portfolio (2009-11) and co-risk-managed an emerging markets credit portfolio in (2008-09).

Alberto served as Economist of the International Monetary Fund (1996-00), working with IMF teams and country authorities on rebuilding monetary policy and inflation targeting frameworks, fiscal responsibility rules and banking systems during the emerging market financial crises of the late 1990’s. After the crises subsided, he worked on reform of the global financial architecture, bank capital and liquidity rules, transparency, standards, and disclosures.

Alberto is a Director on the Board of Man Group (2022- ) serving on the Audit and Risk, Remuneration, and Nominations Committees. He is also a Director on the Board of Freddie Mac (2021- ) serving on the Risk, Operations and Technology, and Compensation and Human Capital Committees.

Alberto served as Chairman of the Board for School the World (2012-15); a non-profit organization committed to solving extreme poverty through the power of education. He oversaw a period of significant program growth in the number of schools built and children served. He remained a board member through 2017.

Early in his career, Alberto was an analyst at Bankers Trust (1995) and McKinsey & Co (1994).

Alberto is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Economic Club of New York. He served on the Distinguished Advisory Group of the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (2022-24).

Alberto is Adjunct Professor of finance at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business (2022- ). He was Adjunct Professor of international financial markets at Johns Hopkins’ School of Advanced International Studies (2007).

Alberto has a PhD in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania (1996). He also holds a MSc and a BSc in Economics from the London School of Economics (1992 & 91). He was born in Bogota, Colombia, and lived in Brazil and Argentina before emigrating to the US and graduating from Maryland’s public school system.
