Summer Internship Spotlight: James Bubnick (MBA'19), Porsche Consulting

LEARN MORE ABOUT A GEORGETOWN MBA

Each year, our students spend their summers in Washington, D.C., across the nation, and around the world working in corporate, nonprofit, and government organizations. This month, we’re featuring Full-time MBA students with particularly interesting summer internships.

James Bubnick (MBA’19)

Summer MBA Intern, Porsche Consulting, Inc.
A wholly owned subsidiary of Porsche AG (Part of the Volkswagen Group)
Atlanta, Georgia

What are you doing this summer?

I’m working on a variety of projects with aerospace clients, examining current processes, process mapping, discovering waste and forming plans to eliminate or reduce such waste, then implementing improvements. My first project dealt with improving the gate turn time for domestic aircraft. Then I implemented a new catering process for our client at Boston Airport. It’s pretty interesting because these projects have potential to disrupt an entire industry. Now I’m traveling 80% of my time to client sites and spending my day with the client, contractors, or at the airport.

How does Porsche Consulting relate to your professional or personal interests?

I am a Porsche enthusiast and restored my 1985.5 Porsche 944. Working at Porsche’s North American headquarters is literally a dream come true for me. The culture here is the best corporate culture I’ve been a part of and I am extremely proud to be part of the Porsche team.

I also have an extensive technical background in both the aerospace and automotive field, I have a B.S. from Ohio State University in aerospace engineering, am fluent in Chinese, and launched the 2015 Ford Edge in mainland China. Porsche is an extremely technical company, with an immense global presence that produces some of the world’s finest products. I am leveraging my past experiences, background, and the business skills developed through Georgetown to become a global leader. I’m excited to see the future opportunities that arise from this experience.

How did you find the internship?

Last year a fellow MBA classmate interned for Porsche Consulting. I asked for an introduction and received an offer shortly after. I’m proud to say that after I introduced Porsche Consulting’s HR department with Larry Verbiest, the consulting career coach, the company will now post open positions in McDonough CareerView.

What’s the coolest thing you’ve done this summer?

This year Porsche celebrated their 70th birthday with Sports Car Together Day, with events worldwide and the naming of Porsche’s 100% electric car, the Taycan. I’ve also gone rafting where the 1996 Olympics were held, visited the World of Coke, went to the very first Chick-Fil-A, and explored Atlanta. My office had the racetrack for the Porsche Atlanta Experience Center and watching and hearing the cars go buy with professional drivers is always a lot of fun.
