Georgetown Introduces New Online Option to the Flex MBA

To further expand on the reach and flexibility of the Flex MBA program, Georgetown McDonough now offers the degree in an online format, allowing students to continue their path towards career advancement in a virtual modality while maintaining the academic rigor and experiential opportunities that define the Georgetown MBA.

The new online format, known as the Flex MBA Online, delivers the same degree as the in-person program with the added convenience of virtual classes. Students will participate in synchronous and asynchronous coursework, along with two week-long residencies in Washington, D.C., as well as participation in the signature Global Business Experience consulting project. Applications are now open for the program, which will begin in the fall of 2023.

“The new online option is intentionally designed to maximize the learning experience,” said Prashant Malaviya, senior associate dean of MBA programs. “By pulling from our program’s strengths, we are able to add more flexibility to the MBA format while retaining our quality education and close-knit community.”

Students in the Flex MBA Online will be integrated into the broader Georgetown community through curricular and co-curricular offerings, including student club involvement, access to the MBA Career Center, and an emphasis on team-based learning throughout the program. Online students located in the D.C. region also have the option to attend a wide range of on-campus events and employer workshops, as well as optional, week-long Intensive Learning Experiences

The online format is a continuation of the school’s highly regarded MBA offerings. Georgetown McDonough is consistently ranked among the top full-time and part-time programs. The school also ranks highly among online master’s programs for its unique blend of required synchronous and asynchronous course content.

“The Flex MBA Online is a reflection of the feedback we’ve received from prospective students and ongoing trends in higher education,” said Shelly Heinrich, associate dean for MBA Admissions and director of marketing. “Students need the ability to balance the requirements of the MBA program among other competing responsibilities in their work and personal life. The online option gives our students the freedom to choose the timing, modality, and schedule that works best for them, with the confidence that they are receiving a quality education to help progress their careers.”

Like the traditional Flex MBA program, the online option can be completed in as little as 24 months or as long as five years. For students who have completed prior graduate coursework, they can request approval to transfer up to 12 credit hours into the program to shorten the duration required to complete the degree.

“We believe that the Flex MBA Online will continue to build on our renowned MBA offerings while reinforcing our Jesuit values of cura personalis, or care for the whole person,” said Malaviya. “It’s important that we recognize each student’s unique needs, abilities, and circumstances and give them the opportunity to choose an MBA experience that sets them up for success. The online offering makes this possible for them.”
