Georgetown McDonough Introduces Four-Day Certificate to Help Professionals Lead with a Sustainable Mindset

Sustainability encompasses all aspects of business, and anyone — regardless of which function you hold within an organization or the industry in which you work — has the ability to lead with a sustainability mindset.

Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business is offering a four-day Certificate in the Business of Sustainability from May 4-7, 2023, which builds upon its successful graduate degree offerings and world-renowned research and expertise in this area, to help professionals from a wide range of industries and backgrounds learn how to build effective sustainability strategies for their organization.

“Now more than ever, businesses need leaders with greater understanding of how to integrate sustainability concepts into business plans that account for ongoing economic, environmental, and social developments,” said Vishal Agrawal, the Henry J. Blommer Family Chair in Sustainable Business and academic director of the Business of Sustainability Initiative. “This certificate will help professionals at all levels speak the language of sustainability while providing concrete strategies and tools that they can take back to their organizations.”

Offered through Georgetown’s Office of Executive Education, the certificate aims at equipping students with the essential knowledge and practical experience needed to successfully lead and manage businesses with a deep understanding of the complex socio-economic and environmental challenges of the 21st century.

Companies competing in today’s socio-economic context increasingly face new and urgent environmental and societal challenges and opportunities that materially affect their operations and business models. For companies to thrive in the current socio-economic context, executives are aware of the need to anticipate and respond to environmental and social sustainability concerns, while more proactive leaders will incorporate sustainability approaches into their competitive strategies to create value.

Through cases and examples from a variety of industries, participants will explore several sustainability challenges and opportunities facing organizations today, ranging from the business case for sustainability, developing a sustainability strategy, how to set goals, supply chain sustainability, and more. Additionally, the material will dive into such topics as renewable energy, waste, climate change, net-zero and carbon negative strategies, circular economy, and energy efficiency.

The deadline to apply is April 28, 2023. Applicants who apply by April 7, 2023, will receive a $500 discount on tuition. For more information about the certificate offering, visit https://msb.georgetown.edu/custom-executive-education/open-enrollment/
