Georgetown and Qatar Leadership Centre Launch Executive Master’s in Leadership

Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business and the Qatar Leadership Centre (QLC) will begin offering an Executive Master’s in Leadership starting in September 2018.

“Through this agreement, we have sought to provide the best possible context for alumni of the Qatar Leadership Centre to develop the skills and talents that will enable them to lead and manage effectively,” said Georgetown University President John J. DeGioia. “Our ongoing engagement in Qatar remains integral to our work of becoming a global university, as we ensure that all of our students are fully prepared to be knowledgeable and compassionate global citizens and leaders.”

The program tailors McDonough’s Executive Master’s in Leadership to the needs of leaders in the region. It is open to qualified QLC graduates who meet the admission criteria so they can build on the expertise they gained through participation in QLC’s National Leadership Programs.

“Georgetown McDonough is pleased to extend our depth of experience in offering customized leadership degrees to QLC alumni,” said Paul Almeida, dean of the McDonough School of Business. “We will build upon the strength of QLC’s curriculum to provide a global, interdisciplinary context for leadership as only Georgetown can.”

QLC graduates who successfully complete the new, nine-month program will have participated in all modules held in Doha, the residency module in Washington, D.C., and will have completed all required online coursework. Upon fulfilling the degree requirements, they will be awarded an Executive Master’s in Leadership from Georgetown University and become members of the university’s global network of more than 190,000 alumni.

“QLC was established by HH the Amir of Qatar to support and empower Qataris in their various fields. This partnership with Georgetown and support from the Qatar Foundation establishes a collaborative partnership with leading global academic institutions both in Doha and abroad,” said H.E. Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, chairperson, QLC Board of Directors. “It will further accelerate progress in providing a platform for leadership excellence, enabling our country nationals to reach further heights in fulfilling their potential. They represent the best of Qatar’s bright future — and this partnership goes a long way to creating the conditions for their success.”

The new degree program marks a significant step forward in the learning journey that began with the QLC National Leadership Programs. It was developed in response to QLC graduates’ requests for the opportunity to earn a graduate degree incorporating the QLC programs they have completed.

The degree will qualify alumni to contribute to the development, growth, and prosperity of Qatar in important ways in the decades ahead, as it will reflect achievement in both theory and practice in areas of relevance to Qatar. Employers are expected to benefit from the graduates’ expertise in policy issues and in facing leadership challenges, as well as creating innovative solutions that fit today’s complex global work environment.
