MSF Graduating Class of 2022 Achieves Record Employment Outcomes

The Master of Science in Finance (MSF) class of 2022 at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business achieved record salaries and career outcomes in their post-graduate roles, as reported in the annual MSF Career Success Report

Recent graduates earned a comprehensive base salary of $119,199, up from $112,139 last year, and a median base salary of $105,000. For the fourth year in a row, median base salary remained at the six-figure mark.

“These extraordinary career outcomes are the result of our world-class career services, curriculum, faculty, students, and administration,” said Allan Eberhart, senior associate dean for the MSF program. “Our blended online approach to learning, student life, and career services is an unrivaled combination that employers around the world recognize in our graduates.”

The MSF program reports career success by experience level to provide a more in-depth view of outcomes data among a diverse cohort of alumni.

Those with four or more years of work experience reported an average base salary of $146,755, up from $120,189 last year, with a median base salary of $129,000. Experienced graduates also earned, on average, more than $159,000 in additional non-base compensation up to a ceiling of $1.2 million. Between the time of admission and six months after graduation, the average base salary increased 73%, and 86% of these graduates earned a promotion at their current company or accepted a job at a different firm.

Graduates with three years or less of work experience reported an average base salary of $98,692, a median base salary of $97,500, and average non-base compensation of $27,642. A total of 96% of entry and early career graduates were either employed or pursuing further education within six months of graduation.

“The success of our graduates is a testament to their hard work, grit, and determination in immediately leveraging their degree,” said Thomas Stowell, associate dean for MSF career services and strategic initiatives. “The academic and business skills that they bring to the workplace allow them to take on the most challenging business problems organizations face today.”

The class of 2022 landed positions across a wide range of industry areas and leadership roles, including Fortune 500 companies, global financial institutions, renowned consulting firms, government agencies, nonprofits, and other organizations.

As Georgetown McDonough’s first technology-intensive program, the MSF combines interactive asynchronous course content with weekly live classes – which students can attend in person or online in the MSF blended classroom – to create an unrivaled blended experience for students. The program offers a flexible cohort-based format that allows students to seek internships, compete for promotions with a current employer, or accept a new position at any time between admission and graduation.

“The Georgetown MSF prepared me to take the next step in my career from a mid-level banking career to a director position at a boutique consulting firm,” said Samuel Phelps (MSF’22), director of valuation services at Tenet Financial Group. “The program enhanced the skills I needed to be a leader in my industry, and I truly believe the MSF program can bring out the best in you. From the challenging curriculum, the professional clinics, and the ability to interact with others from diverse backgrounds, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills both in and outside of the classroom on the Hilltop.”

The MSF program offers a robust career services curriculum that enables students across all areas and levels to identify new and rewarding professional opportunities. As the only MSF program in the country with a dedicated career services team, students benefit from one-on-one career advising, executive coaching sessions, and interview preparation; Summer Career Bootcamps; an in-depth career strategy course focused on career exploration and personal branding; immersive winter and summer clinics to engage in real-world projects with corporate partners; and access to industry panel discussions, career fairs, employer networking events, and a worldwide network of MSF alumni.
