Startup Hoyas Summer Incubator Hosts Student Entrepreneurs

The Startup Hoyas Summer Launch Program at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business is hosting 13 entrepreneurial ventures this summer in its startup incubator program.

Now in its fifth year, the program is designed specifically for current Georgetown students and recent graduates who want to launch a new venture. The nearly two dozen students and alumni receive dedicated support from Georgetown faculty, mentors, and other experienced entrepreneurs; work space in the business school’s Rafik B. Hariri Building on the Georgetown campus; introductions to local investors and entrepreneurs; invitations to exclusive networking events; and the opportunity to present their ideas to the DC entrepreneurial community.

The teams will present their work at 1776 on Wednesday, July 29.

This year’s companies include:

Altruism Network, a platform to help nonprofits and NGOs track and manage the activities of their volunteers. It is led by Zijian Li, Vanessa Pan, and Enxi Yin.

AnyBox, internet-based, smart vending machines that offer healthy food options. It is led by Jun Yan.

Barkzy, a pet telemedicine platform that enables pet parents to connect with veterinarians. It is led by Tonja Hardyman (MBA ’15).

Fat Cat, a platform to enable federal, state, and local government employees to more effectively negotiate salary increases. It is led by James McNamara.

Foodhini, which brings authentic, home-style ethnic cuisine to the fast-casual consumer through a mobile, on-demand platform. It is led by Philip Vang and Pavi Raj.

HIIT Philosophy, a fitness studio concept featuring short-duration, high-intensity workouts paired with social and lifestyle experiences. It is led by Maggie Winzeler.

Manna, an online community dedicated to the black hair care industry. It is led by Jasmin Joseph.

MARKApp, a mobile app platform designed to encourage a greater level of charitable giving by individuals. It is led by Kevin Barrow (MBA ’16).

Misfit Juicery, producers of premium, cold-pressed juice made from surplus fruit and vegetables. It is led by Ann Yang (SFS ’15), Phil Wong (SFS ’15), Mehvish Jamal, and Arjun Gupta.

Roamer, an online marketplace for graduate students and young professionals looking to sublet an apartment or find accommodations. It is led by Kentaro Murase and Alexander Galicki.

theAdvisor, an online resource for universities to enhance and streamline communication with their international student population. It is led by Ali Maresh.

Sunniva Caffe, producers of ready-to-drink, natural coffee beverages. It is led by Jake DeCicco (B ’16) and Jordan DeCicco.

Wanderus, an urban-centric discovery and planning tool that connects people to outdoor recreational spaces. It is led by Drew Smith and Anh Nguyen.
