Wei Tang

Professor Tang received her bachelor's degree from Peking University and her PH.D degree from the University of Michigan. She joined Georgetown University in 2005. She is an associate professor and a fellow at the AI, Technology, and Future of Work Initiative at the McDonough School of Business.

Professor Tang's research expertise includes predicting future earnings using current financial and non-financial information, earnings quality, fair value accounting, and how new data and emerging technologies add value and change the landscape of financial reporting systems and the business decision-making process. Her current research is interested in 1) how AI has changed the labor market and cost structure of businesses, 2) how to measure the value of data in financial markets and how disinformation and the intervention of disinformation influence market participants' behavior; 3) how innovations in technology via social media have changed business forecasting, investment in intangible assets, and the competitive landscape in credit markets (both trade credits and bank credits); 4) regulatory framework and taxation of digital assets, especially its impact on cryptocurrency pricing, tax compliance, and its interaction with traditional banking system; 5) how non-economic factors, such as wining and dining, play an important role in contracting; and 6) the Chinese capital markets.

Professor Tang has published articles in all top journals in the accounting field, including the Journal of Accounting and Economics, the Journal of Accounting Research, the Accounting Review, and the Review of Accounting Studies. Professor Tang's work has also been published in Research Policy, the top policy research journal, and other influential journals, such as Blockchain and Cryptocurrency and the Journal of International Accounting Research.

Professor Tang's academic contributions have been widely recognized. Her work on transparency and tax policy effectiveness in cryptocurrency markets has received the Best Paper Award at the National Business and Economics Society in 2025, and her work on the geography of cryptocurrency flows has been nominated as one of the four papers for the Best Paper in Capital Markets Award at the European Financial Management Annual Conference in 2023.

Outside of the academic circle, Professor Tang is the awardee of the Eisenhower Foundation's International Leadership Award in 2019 and serves as the Chair for the Asian American Leadership Award in 2025 sponsored by the US-China Association of Commerce.
