Record-Breaking EMBA D.C. Class Welcomes Experienced, Global Leaders

The Executive MBA D.C. (EMBA D.C.) program at Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business welcomed its largest cohort to date this fall with 68 students. This year’s class reflects a wide array of industries and backgrounds, bringing a wealth of experience to the classroom and the broader Georgetown community.

“Our incoming students bring remarkable professional accomplishments, global perspective, and leadership experience to the program,” said Nita Swinsick, associate dean for graduate and executive program admissions at Georgetown McDonough. “As the largest class in program history, the Class of 2027 is poised to learn from one another and take the next step in their careers while contributing to the dynamic classroom environment that defines Georgetown EMBA.”

Students in the Class of 2027 come from across the country and around the globe, with 22% out-of-state and 26% holding international citizenship. Nearly half of the cohort are women –  marking a record 49% – and 42% are U.S. underrepresented minorities. Over a third (34%) of the class are first-generation college students. The class has an average age of 40 and brings 16 years of professional experience, underscoring the depth of expertise within the cohort.

Students come from sectors including consulting, education, financial services, government, healthcare, nonprofit/social impact, and technology, among others. Many hold advanced degrees (53%), and their undergraduate backgrounds span engineering, business, social sciences, arts and humanities, economics, mathematics, and other diverse disciplines. Based in the nation’s capital, the program also continues to grow its military presence for executive-level professionals transitioning to civilian careers.

“Georgetown’s EMBA D.C. program stands out for its immersive global experiences, close-knit cohorts, and access to the Washington, D.C., ecosystem as a hub for professional growth,” said Nick Lovegrove, academic director of the EMBA program and professor of the practice at Georgetown McDonough. “This cohort exemplifies our commitment to preparing experienced, principled leaders in business, and we look forward to seeing them grow professionally during their time in the program.”

The EMBA D.C. is consistently ranked as a top program in the United States for its career potential, alumni satisfaction, and international representation. The program offers robust career support, including one-on-one sessions with dedicated career coaches, access to recruiters and executive search professionals, networking events, and in-class career sessions and leadership assessments.

“The Georgetown EMBA program offered the experience I was seeking: the opportunity to expand my professional network, challenge myself, engage with rigorous academics, and join a university deeply committed to positive global impact,” said Nicole Zammit (EMBA’27). “From day one, I was surrounded by experienced, diverse peers intentionally pursuing growth, alongside expert, well-connected faculty who emphasize relevant material and encourage the adoption of leading technologies and modern practices. In just weeks, our cohort transformed from strangers into a lively, supportive community inspiring one another to reach our goals on this challenging yet rewarding journey.”

The Class of 2027 is among the first to benefit from the program’s hybrid course format, which combines in-person sessions one weekend per month with online learning, along with five week-long signature experiences across the 21-month program. Global experiences remain a hallmark of the program, including the signature global consulting project and a student-designed, in-country experiential global capstone project.
