Board Member Bill Anderson

Bill Anderson is a senior managing director and global head of Evercore’s top activism raid defense team and strategic M&A/shareholder advisory practice.

He pioneered the practice of activism defense and has advised over 400 companies facing activists, strategic raids or complex M&A transactions, including many of the largest M&A transactions, proxy fights, and activist/raid defenses over the past two decades. He advises companies worldwide across all industries in connection with mergers and acquisitions, special committee situations, corporate governance issues, cross-border transactions, contested shareholder situations, and preparing for hostile activity.

Prior to joining Evercore, Anderson was at Goldman Sachs & Co. for over 15 years where he served as a partner in the M&A Group and led their activism and raid defense practice. Bill also was an M&A attorney for Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, clerked on the United States Court of Appeals, second circuit, was a certified public accountant for Coopers & Lybrand, served as a captain in the U.S. Army Reserves (where he earned a Meritorious Service Medal) and is an Eagle Scout. Anderson graduated with a BSBA, magna cum laude, and a J.D., magna cum laude and Order of the Coif, from Georgetown University – and served as the Managing Article Editor of the Georgetown Law Journal. Anderson is a member of the boards of the Georgetown Business School, the Wall Street Alliance, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York (where he serves as co-chair of the Cardinal’s Committee on Charity), the Boy Scouts of America (Westchester Council), the Harvard Law School Corporate Governance Forum, the Institute for Law and Finance at New York University, the Institute for Law and Economics at the University of Pennsylvania, Student Sponsor Partners and Veterans on Wall Street.
