Incoming MA-IBP Students Bring Diverse Perspectives, International Experience to the Program
The Master of Arts in International Business and Policy’s (MA-IBP) incoming cohort began this January, bringing together students from a variety of diverse, international backgrounds. The cohort consists of dedicated working professionals committed to building their international relations and business skills through leadership and collaboration among a diverse group of peers.
Underrepresented minority students encompass 28% of the overall class, up from 19% last year, with women making up 38% of the cohort. Just under half of the cohort (47%) represents U.S. diversity.
“Our newest MA-IBP cohort represents a breadth of experience and backgrounds, which helps us create a more enriching and inclusive learning environment for our students,” said Nita Swinsick, assistant dean of recruitment and admissions for Executive and Specialized Degree Programs. “They will learn the nuances of international business and policy alongside a cohort of students who bring their own diverse, global perspectives – this is a critical part of their learning experience at Georgetown McDonough.”
Nearly half of the cohort (48%) derives from international citizenship, representing a broad range of countries, including Canada, China, Colombia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, El Salvador, Kosovo, Liberia, New Zealand, Poland, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Spain, with 13 different languages spoken. Of the students enrolled, 86% percent have previous international experience and perspectives.
The average age of MA-IBP students this year is 35, with an average number of years of full-time work experience at 12. Students come from 14 different industries, and 24% of them already hold a postgraduate degree. Nearly a quarter of the program (24%) has a background in the military.
