Georgetown MBA Class of 1997 Establishes Scholarship to Support Future Business Leaders

A group of alumni recently raised more than $100,000 to establish the MBA Class of 1997 Endowed MBA Scholarship Fund to support the advancement of Full-time MBA students in Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business.

“We are deeply grateful to the MBA alumni from the class of 1997 for their generosity in creating a meaningful class gift that continues to benefit our MBA students,” said Sudipta Dasmohapatra, senior associate dean of MBA programs. “This gift, made possible through alumni donations and fundraising efforts, will enable high-quality MBA students to pursue their academic and professional ambitions with fewer financial barriers.”

The scholarship fund reflects the shared experience and lifelong connections in the Georgetown MBA program. Members of the Class of 1997 hope the scholarship will continue to empower the next generation of global business leaders.

“Our class met almost 30 years ago, and we remained engaged with Georgetown and one another because we deeply value the personal connections we formed here,” said Svet Nikov (MBA’97), member of McDonough’s MBA Alumni Advisory Council. “We hope this scholarship fund will help Georgetown recruit the best future Hoyas – students who will build meaningful relationships of their own and find their place within our community. We also hope our scholarship fund serves as a testament to what an MBA class can achieve for Georgetown.”

The merit-based Class of 1997 Endowed Scholarship will support one Full-time MBA student each year in their academic pursuits.

“We are proud to establish this gift as a lasting legacy for future generations of Hoyas,” said Demetri Diavatis (MBA’97), member of McDonough’s MBA Alumni Advisory Council. “Svet and I are also grateful to Susan Thompson (MBA’97) and Jeremy Akel (MBA’97) for their leadership in championing this initiative, as well as to our classmates who generously contributed. Our goal is to continue growing this fund, and we hope that, over time, more of our classmates will join us in supporting this effort.”
