Steers Center for Global Real Estate Partners with Jackson Lucas To Expand Career Services at Georgetown McDonough
The Steers Center for Global Real Estate has partnered with Jackson Lucas (JL) – a specialized real estate search firm – to expand career opportunities for students interested in real estate at Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business through a new program called JL Access.
In collaboration with the McDonough Career Center, the addition of JL Access marks the first partnership of its kind for the school and the Steers Center. With a focus on career opportunities and hands-on support, JL will work with the McDonough Career Center within the following degree programs: M.S. in Global Real Assets (MS-GRA); Full-time, Flex, and Flex MBA Online; the Executive MBA in D.C.; as well as undergraduate students, to deliver the following services and programming:
- Access to employer networks tailored to student interests and career pathways
- Career fairs hosted by the McDonough Career Center to establish new connections in the real estate industry
- Career workshops focused on technical interviewing skills, industry insights, compensation reviews, and networking strategies
“Creating a partnership with Jackson Lucas aligns with our mission to help students achieve meaningful career opportunities in the real estate industry,” notes Matthew Cypher, director of the Steers Center and Atara Kaufman Professor of Real Estate. “It will allow students to lean on the industry experiences of seasoned professionals and develop a network of connections prior to leaving the Hilltop that will foster opportunities for career longevity.”
From interview preparation to one-on-one career coaching, industry seminars, and workshops, McDonough students who engage with JL Access will be poised to enter the real estate industry with critical early career development experiences under their belt.

Georgetown McDonough students
A cornerstone of Jesuit education at Georgetown University is cura personalis – care of the whole person. The partnership with Jackson Lucas compliments McDonough’s academic curriculum by tapping into resources and connections that extend beyond experiences in the classroom. This will allow students to dig even deeper into the real estate industry prior to leaving Georgetown.
“It is more important than ever for students to broaden their opportunity set and to prepare to take advantage of these opportunities,” noted Lisa Flicker, senior managing partner and head of real estate at Jackson Lucas. “We are thrilled to partner with Georgetown University to bring students unique access to commercial real estate job opportunities, to roll up our sleeves, and to work with students to best prepare them to land a job in this highly competitive market.”
Additionally, one of the core values at the Steers Center is care and commitment to each student and their career prospects. From faculty who partner with students to train, guide, and advise on career opportunities, to resources that allow students to share their resumes with potential employers for internships or employment connections, the addition of JL Access will be a value-add to help students transform their impact both locally and globally in real estate.
The McDonough Career Center actively serves business students with dedicated career advising and resources related to their field of interest. During the inaugural year of the MS-GRA program, students were coached on career strategy, networking, interview prep, and compensation negotiations, and the Career Center facilitated connections in the real estate sector with top employers.
Alexis Goihman, who earned her M.S. in Global Real Assets in May 2024, had this to say about the impact the McDonough Career Center had on her student experience:

“I leaned on Denise [Durgin] and Rachel [Smith] in the Career Center as much as I could—they were always so kind and willing to help,” said Goihman. “Building a genuine relationship with them made it easy to talk openly about the job process, which was such a huge help.”
Through industry connections, a dedicated career team at McDonough, and the new partnership with Jackson Lucas and JL Access, current and future students will be well-positioned to secure impactful career opportunities in real estate.
