Georgetown McDonough Introduces Sustainable Business Fellows for Undergraduate Students
Georgetown McDonough introduced the Sustainable Business Fellows program for undergraduate students in collaboration with Business for Impact. The program is modeled after the MBA Certificate in Sustainable Business and open to Georgetown McDonough undergraduate students interested in engaging with sustainability-related issues in the business world.
Vishal Agrawal, Provost’s Distinguished Lapeyre Family Associate Professor and academic director of the program, says that it is important for students to be equipped with the tools to tackle problems of sustainability in the business world.
“Companies are increasingly facing urgent and novel challenges related to sustainability in their operations and business models,” said Agrawal. “As a result, our students will have to deal with such challenges but also opportunities as they go on to work for different companies and institutions.”
Fellows in the program will be required to take a course on sustainable operations for business as well as two related electives. They also will complete a capstone project. The project can take on several forms, such as an internship, research project, or participation in a pitch competition.
“For next-generation leaders, environmental sustainability is a top priority,” said Leslie Crutchfield, Business for Impact. “We know that young people are driven by purpose and they want to buy from and work for companies that contribute to a healthy planet.”
The school’s Business for Impact initiative will offer fellows the opportunity to network with alumni and students in the MBA Program, find internships, explore career options, and attend community events.
“The Sustainable Business Fellows program is an exciting and critical new step in McDonough’s sustainability journey as we educate and support the next generation of leaders on how to balance the triple bottom line — people, planet, and prosperity,” said Crutchfield.
