Georgetown EMBA Advances to 8th Nationally in Financial Times Ranking, 1st for Career Progress

Driven by strong career outcomes, innovative course content, and international representation across the program, the Executive MBA (EMBA) at Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business rose to 8th nationally in the annual ranking by the Financial Times, up from 10th last year.

Among U.S. EMBA programs, Georgetown’s EMBA was ranked:

  • 1st (and 2nd globally) for career progress;
  • 2nd for gender parity;
  • 3rd for courses dedicated to environment, social, and governance (ESG) concerns; and
  • 5th for international faculty representation.

“Our first-place ranking for career progress speaks volumes about the dedication of our students and the strength of our network. Georgetown’s EMBA is more than a degree – it’s a launchpad for leaders who want to grow, solve real challenges, and make a meaningful difference in their organizations and communities.”

Nick Lovegrove, academic director of the EMBA D.C. program

The Financial Times produces the EMBA ranking through surveys of alumni three years after graduation and business schools. Programs are evaluated on the following criteria: alumni salary figures and percentage salary increase, alumni career progress and aims achieved as a result of their degree, classroom time dedicated to ESG issues, the university’s carbon footprint, faculty research, the percentage of faculty with doctorates, percentage of international and women faculty members, student work experience, percentage of international and women students, international course experience, and the percentage of international and women board members.

The flexible EMBA D.C. program helps students build global business knowledge with unrivaled access to leaders in business, policy, and government. Steeped in a values-based education, EMBA students are prepared to solve critical challenges and leave a positive impact within their organizations and on their communities. The program curriculum features two signature global experiences, including the signature global consulting project and a student-designed, in-country experiential global capstone project.

“The Georgetown EMBA not only helped propel my career forward but also gave me a network of peers I can rely on for insight and collaboration,” said Heather Kennedy (EMBA’22), vice president of government relations and external communications at The Home Depot. “The guidance from faculty, global context, and connections with accomplished classmates were critical in shaping my career and advancing my professional goals.”

A hallmark of the program is its robust career support, including one-on-one sessions with dedicated career coaches, access to an extensive list of recruiters and executive search professionals, networking events, tailored in-class career sessions, and leadership assessments to support students’ professional growth.

The recent incoming cohort is the largest class in the program’s history and is one of the first to leverage the program’s new hybrid course format, which delivers the same top-ranked, rigorous degree curriculum with the added convenience of some synchronous courses. Students attend in-person classes one weekend per month with online sessions one Saturday per month, in addition to five week-long signature experiences throughout the 21-month program. The program also increased its electives to provide greater exposure to a variety of interdisciplinary concepts and to address emerging topics. Pulling from the school’s deep connections in Washington, D.C., students also gain access to a variety of speakers, conferences, and events, including Georgetown McDonough’s growing list of faculty-led centers and initiatives.
