Undergraduate Program Places 3rd in Poets&Quants Ranking

The Undergraduate Program at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business is one of the top three business schools in the nation for the third consecutive year according to the annual ranking by Poets&Quants for Undergrads.

Poets&Quants, a leading online publication for graduate and undergraduate business education news, equally weighted three categories in calculating the ranking: admissions standards, academic experience, and employment outcome data. This year, Georgetown McDonough placed second in career outcomes, third in academic experience, and fourth in admissions.

“Our Undergraduate Program is committed to developing the next generation of responsible global leaders in business, and we are proud to be recognized as a top program that delivers on this mission,” said Patricia Grant, senior associate dean for the Undergraduate Program. “For a ranking that relies heavily on surveys to alumni, it’s wonderful to hear positive feedback from our graduates on how Georgetown has prepared them for success during their time on the Hilltop and beyond.”

The survey data was collected both from the individual schools and through feedback from the Class of 2021. Recent graduates were surveyed on components such as the value of the degree, extracurricular opportunities, the school’s advising and career resources, and accessibility of the alumni network.

The alumni who completed the Poets&Quants survey that contributed toward the ranking were among the first few classes to fully engage with the dedicated resources for undergraduates through the McDonough Career Center, which is housed in the business school and provides students with one-on-one career coaching and assistance securing internships and jobs, connecting with alumni, and accessing other career resources at Georgetown.

Georgetown Students Travel Across the Globe for Business Consulting Projects

The Undergraduate Program also expanded its extracurricular and cocurricular activities to provide new opportunities to engage in Jesuit traditions and leverage Georgetown’s global reputation. The class of 2021 had the opportunity to enroll in McDonough’s signature Global Business Experience elective, in addition to the Global Business Fellows program, where undergraduate business students consult for an organization abroad and then travel to the country to present their findings to executives.

They also participated in unique global case competitions with universities from across the globe, as well as the signature First Year Seminar Social Impact Consulting Project to address a real-world business challenge with a D.C.-based nonprofit organization.

With a holistic focus on well-being, the Undergraduate Program offers a variety of opportunities to nurture students’ personal growth. Students are invited to weekly Wellness Wednesdays, which focus on academic, physical, spiritual, and emotional wellness; Caffeine with the Deans and Bagels with the Deans to connect with undergraduate advising deans; and Ad Astra retreats, which are off-campus, overnight experiences that guide students through reflection, learning exercises, and skill-building workshops.

“We seek to encourage intellectual, spiritual, and physical growth throughout the student journey,” said Grant.

With a focus on our Jesuit value of cura personalis, or care for the whole person, we believe that fostering a community of care and holistic well-being is integral to the Georgetown experience.

Georgetown McDonough is distinguished by its location in the global capital city of Washington, D.C., its access to the broader academic community within Georgetown University, and its strong Jesuit heritage. Within the Undergraduate Program, students gain a D.C. advantage with access to leaders and organizations spanning business, policy, government, diplomacy, nonprofits, and startups. Students complete the Georgetown liberal arts core in addition to their business studies to emphasize an interdisciplinary approach to education.

Students also have opportunities to complete academic research with professors and organizations and engage in unique co-curricular activities such as entrepreneurship pitch competitions and ongoing speaker events. A focus on the university’s Jesuit values has built a culture where students are shown how to care for one another and the common good, while pursuing academic excellence, inter-religious understanding, and inclusion for all.
