Alumni Receive 2017 Entrepreneurial Excellence Awards

Three Georgetown McDonough alumni received awards at the Georgetown Entrepreneurship Alliance’s 2017 Entrepreneurial Excellence Awards on November 2. The awards ceremony took place at Social Tables, founded by Dan Berger (MBA’10), who earned the Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2012. 

This year’s Entrepreneur of the Year award was given to Randy Goldberg (B’00), co-founder and chief brand officer of Bombas, a line of athletic and everyday socks. For every pair of socks purchased, Bombas donates one pair to homeless shelters in the United States. The company has donated over four million socks to date. In 2014, Goldberg and his partner, David Heath, appeared on ABC’s popular reality TV show, Shark Tank. They signed a deal with “shark,” or investor, Daymond John.

The Best of Hospitality honor was awarded to Luke Holden (B’07), founder and president of the seafood restaurant chain Luke’s Lobsters. Luke’s Lobsters can be found in 10 U.S. cities and five locations in Japan. The company aims to delivers fresh, authentic Maine lobster rolls.

Cherian Thomas (EML’14) received the Best Mobile App award for Spotluck, which allows users to spin a virtual wheel and receive discounts to local restaurants. Thomas is the co-founder and CEO of the company. Spotluck was launched in June 2014 with eight restaurants in Rockville, Maryland, and now spans major cities along the East Coast. The company’s mission is to provide cost savings to users and to support local restaurants.
