On April 23, Father Ron Anton, S.J., began his role as the inaugural Senior Advisor for Jesuit Identity at Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business. In this part-time position, Father Anton will collaborate with McDonough’s faculty and administration to encourage Jesuit identity by supporting existing efforts and developing new initiatives. This will involve communicating these efforts to both internal and external stakeholders and strengthening partnerships with outside Jesuit institutions.
“Our students have the opportunity to learn business, management and leadership skills at McDonough. In addition, our Jesuit mission makes us obligated to serve the common good,” said Paul Almeida, dean of the McDonough School of Business. “I’m excited Father Anton has joined us at the business school to infuse Jesuit teachings and values throughout our students’ experiences so our future leaders graduate asking how they can do well for themselves and the world.”
As one of the few Jesuits with a business education, Father Anton has assisted Georgetown McDonough on several projects in recent years. He has a Ph.D. in organizational behavior from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University and has taught business classes at the undergraduate, graduate, and executive levels.
Earlier in his career, Father Anton was dean of the Sellinger School of Business and Management at Loyola University Maryland, at what is now Alberto Hurtado University in Santiago Chile, and at the Beijing International MBA at Peking University. He also worked as the secretary for higher education (ad interim) for the Society of Jesus at the Jesuit headquarters in Rome. Most recently, he worked as a consultant with local Jesuits to establish tertiary-level institutions in Africa.
The Senior Advisor for Jesuit Identity position emerged out of the work conducted by Georgetown McDonough’s Innovation Initiative, specifically the task force on “Enhancing our Jesuit Values” – one of several working groups seeking to strengthen the school’s distinctive qualities.
