D.C. Blockchain Summit Brings Together Experts in Bitcoin, Fintech

The Georgetown Center for Financial Markets and Policy hosted the third annual D.C. Blockchain Summit, led by the Chamber of Digital Commerce, on March 6-8 at the McDonough School of Business. Welcome remarks on the opening day were given by Reena Aggarwal, director of the center and Robert McDonough Professor of Finance. Executive director John Jacobs moderated a fireside chat on the intersection of blockchain and Wall Street.

More than 600 people attended the summit, which featured global thought leaders such as James Sullivan, deputy assistant secretary for services, U.S. Department of Commerce; Matthew Roszak, co-founder and chairman of Bloq; and U.S. Representative David Schweikert, co-chair, Congressional Blockchain Caucus. More than 70 speakers discussed topics such as initial coin offerings, bitcoin futures and ETFs, trading and investing in cryptocurrencies, legislative and regulatory ramifications, as well as general market developments. The summit kicked off with a 24-hour code-a-thon to develop blockchain-based solutions to address digital identity, payments, and RegTech.
