Ricardo Ernst Recognized for Exceptional Contributions in Online Teaching and Learning

Ricardo Ernst, Baratta Chair in Global Business and professor of operations and global logistics, has been named among 10 finalists for the 2017 edX Prize for Exceptional Contributions in Online Teaching and Learning. Ernst is being recognized for the Global Business in Practice MOOC, a massive open online course that Georgetown McDonough produces to make learning about global business issues accessible worldwide.

This second annual edX Prize celebrates the contributions and innovations of MOOC teachers in the edX community and amplifies the powerful role that MOOCs play in the transformation of education today.

“It is an honor to be recognized among this year’s finalists who represent a diverse range of disciplines,” said Ernst. “As a lead instructor, I have the opportunity to impart foundational knowledge of what it takes to be a ‘global-ready leader’ and convey findings about the workings of globalization to help executives make informed decisions in a dynamic business context.”

The Global Business in Practice MOOC provides executives with an overall view of the increasingly complex challenges of global business from the perspectives of Georgetown faculty and senior executives currently working in multinational companies. MOOC participants represent 160 countries, with the United States, Colombia, India, Brazil, and Mexico as the top countries of the students.
