Georgetown University has selected its inaugural class of Dikran Izmirlian Program in Business & Global Affairs (BGA) students. The 41 students in the class of 2023 represent diverse backgrounds, interests, and experiences and share curiosity about the complex interactions at the intersection of business and global affairs.

“We are excited to welcome this initial class of BGA students to the program,” said Brad Jensen, director of the BGA program and McCrane/Shaker Chair in International Business. “The diversity in the program will allow our students to experience our curriculum through the unique perspectives and experiences held by each individual.”

The BGA is the first two-school, interdisciplinary undergraduate degree program at Georgetown University.  It is delivered by faculty from the McDonough School of Business and the Walsh School of Foreign Service. The class almost evenly represents both schools, with 21 from the School of Foreign Service and 20 from the McDonough School of Business.

The students hail from China, Colombia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Vietnam. Among the U.S. students, home states span the Northeast Corridor, the West Coast, Colorado, Kentucky, and Missouri. Overall, the students have an average Georgetown GPA of 3.8, and the group includes 22 women and 19 men.

The BGA major features an innovative set of signature courses with experiential learning around the world and in Washington, D.C. The many benefits of the new joint degree also include: dedicated resources at both schools; team teaching; and a small learning community. This interdisciplinary degree positions graduates to make meaningful contributions to pressing global issues within business, government, and society. [Watch the video.]

First-year students are eligible to apply to the program after successfully completing the first Signature Course in the spring of their first year. Students who wish to request enrollment in the spring Signature Course, BGAF 101, should fill out this form
