TRANSFER STUDENTS
The McDonough School of Business welcomes applications from students wishing to transfer either from another college within Georgetown, or from another University. External applicant must have successfully completed a minimum of 12 credits of college level coursework before they will be considered for admission. Internal applicants must have completed 1 full year in their respective school before transferring. All transfer students are also expected to have an overall GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. While there are no specific courses that are required for admission as a transfer student, The following classes are recommended prior to enrolling in the MSB:
  • Micro Economics
  • Macro Economics
  • Calculus
  • Statistics
  • English Literature
  • Psychology or Sociology
  • History or Government
  • General Philosophy
EXTERNAL APPLICANTS

Students wishing to transfer from another University must submit all application materials by March 1 to be considered for the following fall. Please note that students can only be accepted for the fall semester. The application must contain the following materials:

  • Personal data form
  • Transfer application form
  • Official transcripts of high school and college coursework (for international students these transcripts must be complete and translated into English)
  • Recommendations from one current or previous professor and from a university Dean if possible, otherwise a second professor is acceptable
  • Catalogue pages (photocopies are ok) describing all completed coursework from each of the universities attended
  • TOEFL scores are required from students whose native language is not English. (NOTE: GU requires a minimum TOEFL score of 250 to be considered for transfer admission)
  • All transfer students are required to submit scores from either the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or the American College Testing (ACT) program examination.
Once a student has been accepted, our office will review previous transcripts to determine which courses will be transferred in and will provide an unofficial plan of courses still to be completed. Students will be required to complete a minimum of 20 courses and 60 credits at Georgetown in order to graduate.

Admission decisions are generally made by June 1, and students will need to accept or decline the offer by June 15.

 

NOTE: The MSB Undergraduate Deans' Office does not send out application materials. You must contact the admissions office directly.

INTERNAL APPLICANTS

Students wishing to transfer from another school or college at Georgetown are urged to discuss their plans early on with their respective Deans. Applications can be considered for either spring or fall semester, assuming the student has completed at least one full year of coursework before entering the MSB. Applicants will be required to submit an Internal Application form. Application forms are available in the MSB Undergraduate Deans' Office, 106 Old North. A short informal interview is also required with Chip Gurkin, Academic Counselor, during which you may discuss appropriate courses and other matters relating to transferring. The deadline for submitting applications is the last day of classes in the semester preceding the semester the student wishes to enroll in the MSB. Students are notified as soon as possible after final grades have been received. Students who have been admitted into the MSB will be allowed to change their schedule prior to the start of classes after consulting with a member of the MSB Undergraduate Dean's office.

DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

Graduation and the awarding of the BSBA (Bachelor of Science in Business Administration) degree is dependent upon satisfactory completion of the following:

1. 120 semester hours;
2. Successful completion of forty courses;
3. A final cumulative grade point average of 2.00 or better;
4. Completion of the Liberal Arts Core requirements;
5. Completion of the School of Business Core requirements;
6. Selection and completion of an area of concentration and its listed requirements;
7. Completion of Free Electives as needed to assure satisfaction of the forty-course requirement.
