McDonough MBA Students Place Second in Case Competitions

In January, four MBA students placed second in the 18th Annual Kellogg Biotech and Healthcare Case Competition and four MBA students advanced to the final round of the 2021 Net Impact Case Competition hosted by AT&T.

More than 80 teams applied to the Kellogg Biotech and Healthcare Case Competition, where they were asked one question:

“How can business leaders build COVID-19 vaccination rates in a world where some choose not to vaccinate or have vaccine hesitancy?”

Representing Georgetown McDonough, Mark Brahier (MD/MBA’22), Ted Cho (MD/MBA’22), Adriana Gonzalez Caballero (MBA’22), and Kavya Sankhavaram (MBA/MSFS’22) were tasked with developing a solution.

It was a highly competitive event in which the Georgetown McDonough team secured second place. Speaking to their success, student leader Adriana Gonzalez Caballero (MBA’22) reflected on her favorite aspect of the competition.

“Winning second place in a competition that includes 82 schools is extremely exciting, but the most rewarding part was collaborating and learning from other students at McDonough,” said Caballero. “Since we all have very different backgrounds and interests within the healthcare industry, it was rewarding to see how we worked together, while still keeping it fun during stressful periods of the competition.”

This year’s competition offered a new three-round structure. Out of the 82 teams that applied in the first round, 16 were chosen to advance to the second round. Finally, a panel of judges selected four teams based on their video competitions to move on to the virtual final round. More than 150 people tuned in to hear each team’s innovative and impressive solutions.

Gonzalez Caballero and her teammates were not the only Hoyas to find success, as Mike Biarnes (MBA’21), Catherine D’Ascoli (MBA’21), Nina Godles (MBA’21), and Carson Rolleri (MBA’21) also have advanced to the final round of the 2021 Net Impact Case Competition.

The Net Impact Case Competition brings together graduate students, executives, and businesses with a shared commitment to innovative business practices that can yield positive social, environmental, and financial outcomes. This year’s competition tasked students with creating a path to economic recovery for a country experiencing the effects of COVID-19. The winners will be announced in the coming weeks.
