Georgetown McDonough School of Business Welcomes a New Class of Undergraduate and MBA Venture Fellows 

The Georgetown Venture Fellows Program recently announced its ninth class of fellows, who will have the opportunity to explore a career with a leading venture capital or private equity firm through year-long apprenticeship and internship opportunities. Both undergraduate and MBA students underwent an extensive application process and multiple interviews to secure their spot in the 2023 cohort. 

The 17 Georgetown Venture Fellows include nine MBA students and eight undergraduate students who are working at 16 companies, including Blu Venture Investors, Citrine Angels, Halcyon Fund, Hamilton Ventures, Lavrock Ventures, LegalTech Fund, New Dominion Angels, Purple Sage Ventures, Qodeo, Razor’s Edge Ventures, Recast Capital, Riptide Ventures, Savano Capital, Ultratech Capital Partners, Victoria Falls Technology, and Virta Ventures.

“The Georgetown Venture Fellows Program is designed as a unique one-year apprenticeship in a venture capital or private equity firm,” said Benjamin Zimmerman, the managing director of Georgetown Entrepreneurship. “Georgetown students gain valuable hands-on experience while firms benefit from high-quality work and the continuity of having an intern for longer than a few weeks.”

The Georgetown Venture Fellows Program started as a collaboration between the MBA program and Georgetown Entrepreneurship to provide students with the opportunity for a year-long apprenticeship at a venture capital or private equity firm. Fellows work part-time during the spring semester, honing tasks such as due diligence, deal sourcing, and assisting portfolio companies before completing a full-time summer internship. This experience is followed by a final semester of part-time work at the firm during the fall semester. The Venture Fellows program has frequently led to full-time venture capital or investment positions after graduation. 

The program benefits from a diversity of venture firms in terms of size, investment focus, and location, as well as from the varied backgrounds and experiences of the student fellows. With a demand for greater diversity in venture capital, this program helps students get their foothold in a venture career and forge meaningful connections with other fellows.

“The experience acts as a win-win relationship. The companies benefit from the fresh mindset of graduate and undergraduate fellows who, in turn, gain solid experience working on challenges and opportunities in the real working environment,” said Jeff Reid, founding director of Georgetown Entrepreneurship and professor of the practice. 

Spencer Nash (BGA’25), one of the undergraduate fellows, reflected on his experience in the Venture Fellow Program working for Blu Ventures in Northern Virginia.

“My time as a Venture Fellow has been spectacular. Blu Ventures has allowed me to take on significant responsibility, leading to a multitude of learning opportunities,” said Nash. “I have been fortunate enough to gain first-hand experience researching innovative technologies for investment, assisting with due diligence processes, and meeting with exceptional founders.”
