Georgetown M.S. in Business Analytics Increases U.S. Diversity, Female Enrollment in Second Cohort

Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business welcomed the second cohort of its M.S. in Business Analytics (MSBA) program in the fall of 2021, with increases in U.S. diversity and female enrollment.

“We are pleased to welcome such a diverse class of students who will be influential in shaping the future of business and analytics,” said Sudipta Dasmohapatra, academic director of the MSBA program and professor of the practice. “As our program continues to grow, we look forward to preparing our students to leverage the power of data-driven decision-making for their organizations.”

This fall, 58 students enrolled in the online program, which is focused on driving value-based decisions by combining leading-edge analytics and critical business skills. The program’s students include 24% from underrepresented minority groups and 53% U.S. diversity (up from 42% last year). Female enrollment also jumped from 34% to 41%, and the military enrollment increased to 12% (up from 7% last year).

The students have an average age of 29 and an average of five years of work experience. Their average undergraduate GPA is 3.36, and they studied a range of undergraduate fields, including business (42%), social sciences (17%), economics (14%), information systems (10%), engineering (7%), and humanities and mathematics/physical sciences (5% each). They also represent 13 different industries, of which the most popular were consulting and technology/new media (17% each), financial services (16%), and education and government (12% each).

The MSBA is a premier program designed specifically for technology-enhanced learning, characterized by close-knit cohorts, a dedicated career services team, and flexibility for working professionals seeking to balance their education with work and personal commitments. The 16-month program includes a combination of synchronous and asynchronous coursework, with two campus-based residencies that provide integrated, hands-on activities. Students also will complete a Capstone Project that applies the program’s study of concepts, methods, and tools to a challenging business data analytics assignment with a project sponsor.

The curriculum integrates the technical aspects of data analytics with managerial business functions, with students learning to “speak the language of data.” Students will learn from expert faculty who will provide foundational skills in finance, economics, management, marketing, operations, and strategy through both research-based and applied solutions to real business problems.
